The link: http://www.ceasefirecampaign.org Friends: please give this serious consideration. It seems to me that the governments of Israel and USA are zigging while the rest of the world zags. Today it appears that the Security Council may vote to choose its course as early as tomorrow ! e.p.1

I don't know if I agree with this international force idea. what is its mandate? it sounds like more of the same ineffectual force that was there already. Is it going to attack hizballah?

I hate to put it this way but it would be a lot better for lebanon right now if syria was back in there with a tight leash on hizballah.

I have written Mr Harper about his stance and I disagree strongly with it, but supporting this UN resolution as it currently is will be in nobody's interest. I am sick of europe standing by impotently and letting america take all the blame while doing nothing significant themselves.

Harper should resign over this, his position is inexcusable and incredibly insensitive given Canadas relationship to both Israel and Lebanon. Have you seen these hearings with McKay? Does this guy even know where Lebanon is on a map? Repeating the word terrorist in response to serious questions might walk south of the border but it shouldn't here.

The UN resolution right now is written by the US and Israel for the benefit of Israel and the United States only. It leaves Israeli forces in Lebanon and gives them the right to respond to any attack. And of course there will be attacks as long as they illegally squat on land that is not theirs.

Now contrast that with what the Lebanese are pushing. The want Israel out, Hezbollah will and has agreed to disarm and a UN or other agreed upon force can set up while the Lebanese army takes over in the south of Lebanon.

The US/Israel position guarantees more war, and edges Lebanon towards civil war - which is clearly what they want to inflict upon the Lebanese once again. It also ignores one party completely in the entire agreement - the Lebanese.

The UN needs to die a long overdue death or be reformed. No more security council BS where the US holds the entire world hostage to its own whims.

“The UN resolution right now is written by the US and Israel”

It was written by the US and their staunch ally *France*.

“And of course there will be attacks as long as they illegally squat on land that is not theirs”

And, of course, there will be attacks no matter where they are. To quote Hezbollah themselves: “if they all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide."

“Now contrast that with what the Lebanese are pushing. The want Israel out, Hezbollah will and has agreed to disarm and a UN or other agreed upon force can set up while the Lebanese army takes over in the south of Lebanon”

Sounds great – hope that, this time, the Lebanese can actually follow through with 1559 and disarm all militias, which they should have done already. Instead, they and the UN did nothing but navel gaze while Hezbollah armed itself to the tits with Iranian weapons.

“The UN needs to die a long overdue death or be reformed”

    Amen to that!

“No more security council BS where the US holds the entire world hostage to its own whims”

Don’t forget about those human rights stalwarts like China and Russia! Oh, my bad. It’s always about the US.

I think you are laughably naďve, Roy. On purpose. The fact is, Hezbollah has stated, "It is an open war until the elimination of Israel and until the death of the last Jew on earth"

Further, the main man in the “Party of God” stated:

"I am against any reconciliation with Israel. I do not even recognize the presence of a state that is called "Israel." I consider its presence both unjust and unlawful. That is why if Lebanon concludes a peace agreement with Israel and brings that accord to the Parliament our deputies will reject it; Hezbollah refuses any conciliation with Israel in principle.

Simple question: If Hezbollah laid down their arms, would Israel be at war with Lebanon? Second part: If Israel laid down her arms, would Hezbollah still attack it?

    ‘Nuff said.

It's interesting that Bush has used his veto power in the UN to stop any progress toward peace in the Middle East and now all of a sudden is using the UN to mandate his idea of a peace process. A one-sided one at that.

All of a sudden if no-one goes along with this great idea, it's the UN's fault. Since when has he had any respect for the UN?

The UN is not the problem. It is the few who refuse to go along with the moral majority. Otherwise, it would be able to do it's job. This is a smear campaign folks.

    'Nuff said.

It's priceless when Israeli supporters start spouting off about any UN resolution. No country is in direct violation and has ignored more UN resolutions than Israel - Period.

As for the - but Hezbollah will do this or do that is a non-starter. Israel has done as much or more to bring this about than any other party. For there would be no Hezbollah had Israel not illegally invaded and then occupied Lebanon in the first place. The massacre of civilians last time around gave rise to The Party of God, and this time the massacre surpasses last time in its early intensity, so what are they creating this time? Is Israel and its Amen corner going to claim their innocence again when a group more devoted and more dangerous than Hezbollah rises up?

always have, being respectful of our neighbours, the
Israel just captured some Iranian troops that had been firing missiles at them. Are you waiting for the Hidden Inam with the old leftists that I used to hang with? Or do you just want the Jews to throw themselves on the mercy of people who have no mercy for anyone? Yeah peacemakerteam member. Why didn't begging for mercy work in WW2? You guys in the left seem to have the goods on them.
next up on the blog -- canadian cities and towns that officially fly the star spangled banner. i am not making this up. i am allowed to make this up, but i am not making this up. if anybody has any pictures of canadian cities with american flags, please send them my way.
"The masses will lick our feet and serve us"

    PMP!

Do you really believe what you just posted? Googling the text returns roughly 450 results - none of which are in any way unbiased media. The usual suspects - truthdig.com, radicalpress.com, and, very ironically, whatreallyhappened.com.

And guess what - they all link back to rense.com!

"The masses will lick our feet and serve us"

Classic. Have you got any source at all on this? I mean, rense doesn't site any source, and all the other sites seem to just refernce rense.com as a source, which is exactly what you've just done. Seriously. PMP.

    Classic stuff.

Sadly, little trolls are already running around the net posting this totally sourcless quote all over. Just like you've done. Getting duped by your own nutjob media. Classic.

Imagine that! Countries working in their best interests! I’m shocked – SHOCKED! What next – Russia and China using veto power in their own best interests? Say it ain’t so!

Re: "i was walking around a major canadian city just recently and i literally (i counted) saw more american flags than canadian ones. i'm sorry but that just does not wash"

On cars? The World Cup must drive you nuts. This whole city was flying something other than a Canadian flag, although I noticed this year that more than a few cars sported the Maple Leaf in addition to whatever country they are loyal to soccer-wise.

I live in Toronto and I see the occasional American flag on a car, but 80% of them have American plates. I see Canadian and American flags together on a few cars. That warms my heart like chocolate and peanut butter. Rarely do I see a US flag with Canadian plates and no Canadian flag. Sometimes, but not often.

I’m in the car about an hour a day on weekdays (30 minutes each way) and make a habit of peeping plates and flags. Yeah, I know I'm kinda lame.

This morning, the only flags I saw were Italian. Still buzzing about the WC, I suppose.
