I wish the National Party would not have died, it was a victim of the media b.s. and a great loss for Canadians!
This man is doing more for Canada than any current elected politician...he must be tireless, thank goodness, I just wish we could clone him...not really ha ha

Whelan, do you know where one can find out more information about the National Party?

I will check my sources, but the book, \'The Betrayal of Canada\' by Mel Hurtig, was my introduction to the National Party. Great read, it was the precursor to \'The Vanishing Country\' but I guess not enough people took the advice he was giving. I\'ll get back to you on the National Party, there may be something on the net, Mel Hurtig was the leader of the party and there was a lawsuit, I believe, challenging the ability for them to debate on CBC with the other parties, prior to the election that year.

Yeah, Mel`s working hard on behalf of the country. That`s why I hate to put pressure on the guy, but maybe, just maybe, Mel could run for leadership of the Canadian Action party. I know he doesn`t really want to get into the political arena again, but I don`t know of anyone else out there with the profile and passion that Mel has who could step in at the helm of the CAP. He suits the party vision, and he I think speaks to all of us here better than any of the other high profile politicians out there. So I still hope and dream...

I find it interesting how Mel's image amongst opposition to what he speaks about. What I mean is. When I'm in a conversation discussing all the same issues that Mel brings forward to the public, the people who agree with globalization, fta/nafta and all the other issues. Most of them don't have a negative opinion of Mel Hurtig. Yet if I mention David Orchard or Paul Hellyer I can find many people who has some bad words to say about them.
I wonder what is so different. Could it be that if Mel Hurtig was to get into politics as a leader or a MP, or whatever, it would mean his image can become bashed amongst the opposition?
Maybe this just means that Mel Hurtig's message is not getting heard. I can admit that sometimes when I mention Mel Hurtig some people have said they never heard of him. Really the only way he gets out there is books and conventions. Could he be much more effective to get in the house of commons? I THINK SO!.
Kevin Gagnon

Check out some new files of Maude Barlow I added to my site and a file on IMF/WB. My Updated Page Dedicated to Canada, the country we all love
Also visit my news page.
