Mazen Jaafar, VP CAF Toronto, shared some words about the difficult past few days and the true suffering of the People of Iraq, much of that information is not being broadcast by North American Media outlets. Mazen Jaafer who is also a media critic, helped illustrate a clearer picture of what has been happening this past week in Falluja and other besieged towns and cities.

Ali Mallah, President CAF Toronto, reminded those present at the vigil why they were there: it was to end the suffering of the Iraqi people by ending the Occupation of their country by outsiders.

Thereafter The Adhan -- the muslim call to prayer -- was heard by all as the Mu'ezzin's voice echoed against the U.S. Consulate building across the Street. A brief explanation of the Adhan was presented to the non-muslims present. Then Muslims of all schools of thought performed the Maghrib or sunset prayer behind a Shi'a Imam. This local gesture of unity mirrors the example of the Iraqi people, both Sunni and Shi'a, who in recent weeks have begun to pray alongside each other.

Despite it being an official holiday, hundreds and hundreds of cars drove by and witnessed the Vigil between sunset and dusk. Reasonably, at least a thousand people if not many many more, witnessed the silent demonstration from their cars. A car horn in support was heard every few minutes. It was answered with cheers and waves from those at the Vigil.

The Vigil ended with a communal art project: the creation of a peace symbol on the main sidewalk.

Dozens of tea lights were placed in see-through plastic cups.

Then arranged in the outline of a peace symbol.

Children with their parents and other individuals stepped in and around the 13 foot in diameter circle to light the candles.

They were sending a message to the People of Iraq:

We too in Toronto remember and mourn the Iraqi victims of the Occupation.

Great display of how people of all races, religions etc can and do come together if they want to!

If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?
