Court Bid To Resurrect Old PC Party Fails

Posted on Monday, November 29 at 11:56 by N Say
Stevens wanted the Tories put back on the register of official parties, arguing in court that Canada's chief electoral officer, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, had been hasty in approving the merger.

In Stevens' view the merger violated the old PC party's constitution. He also said the new party should have no right to PC party funds.

Heneghan found no errors on Kingsley's part in accepting the merger. And though she said Kingsley should have waited 30 days before registering the new party, she added that error had no material effect, and she rejected the Stevens application.

Opponents of the merger tried another legal challenge in the Ontario Superior Court on the eve of the merger last December, but failed.

How can they reject this application? It's a different name from the new party. The old PCs were robbed by the Mulroneyites and Alliance. Judges are working for the Conservatives I guess.

This news is a tad misleading though as the old PC's the Red Tories that is, still exist, although with a new moniker. <br />

Now that the courts have ruled on this matter it is time to support the Progressive Canadian Party and get back in the saddle. The people of Canada want a viable alternative.

But, will they get treated like the old party, or like a neophyte party, and will they get to be part of the TV debate?

I think if the party catches on with the people of Canada we can be there. But to ensure that I would be talking to the independants now sitting in the house to convince them to join the party so they will have seats in the house.

JImmyD, why don't you personally e-mail or phone/write Caaroly Parrish, the other guy maybe and even David Anderson, and ask them to join?

You would want to seriously consider the idea that Mr. Cadman and Ms. Parrish may not have the ideals that would fit with the policies and directions of the Party. I'm not sure we would want to be known as anti-american or anti gay marriage. Mr. Cadman is known to be pretty right wing and Ms. Parrish, of course, is not terribly responsible with her comments. Perhaps better to build on our own values.
