NEAR BORDEN, SASK. -- A spray-painted poster hangs on a fence alongside Highway 16 northwest of Saskatoon: "Liberal culture of corruption," it says.

Off the highway, at the end of a dirt road, David Orchard sits in his farmhouse and frets about the many signs that point to voters' discontent with the Liberals.

That is why I am going to vote for the party that best overall represents my views and my commitment to Canada. I am not voting against the Liberals, as that seems unnecessary, like saying I am agaisnt the thief that robbed my home, words are not necessary. I am for the party that will protect my home, my country, my way of life and the future of my children and grandchildren. I won't vote for a party that wants to dismantle my country, nor for a party that wants to as in the past rob me blind. I will vote for hope! So I'll probably vote for the NDP as they best fit my vision; not completely but best!

The Globe using Orchard's fear and bigotry to scare people into voting Liberal - they're as bad as the Toronto Star. Orchard's a flake, he would ruin Canada if Canadians were dumb enough to give him any real power, which thankfully they're not. I realize his 'stick it to the Americans' message is extremely popular amongst Canadians who believe themselves to be second cousins to the Americans, but the rest of us don't need his kind of petulance to feel good about being Canadian.

Idealist and nationalist. But defintely NOT a "flake" (unless of course a deep abiding belief in Canada is "flaky")

I agree, Orchard is no flake, and he is a keen enough observer of politics to have understood and seen the new rise in support for the Conservatives.
Generally on this site we prefer to see arguments backed up by facts instead of just name-calling: what makes Orchard's policies so wrong? Generally on Vive our mission is to do exactly what Orchard has tried to do: preserve Canadian institutions and traditions, and build a better country. That's very pro-Canadian, positive, and realistic in my view.
---
Now call it extreme if you like, but I propose we hit it hard, and we hit it fast, with a major, and I mean major, leaflet campaign.--Rimmer, Red Dwarf
Hello

I agree that David is no flake. As the progressive Conservatives found out the hard way that their are many Canadians that have the same beliefs. Theses beliefs become even stronger when the Americans close their borders or put a tarrifs on our soft wood lumber.

I don't think that David will be on the sidelines very long after the elections. He will see very clearly that we need a new progressive alternative which will become a home to all progressives whether conservative, liberal, NDP, Green,CAP, Progressive Canadian and other like minded Canadians. I believe that he will be their to assist with the development of that alternative at the end of the day.
