Please Respect Copyright When Posting To Vive, And Include Links

Posted on Friday, May 26 at 15:23 by sthompson
We've been receiving a number of submissions on Vive that are simply the entire texts of articles from elsewhere on the web copied and pasted. These articles are often from major media sources like national newspapers. We CAN'T post the entire texts of articles from elsewhere on the web because this violates copyright. Please be sure to submit only the beginning of the article, and end with "Full article:link". Most of the articles we have been receiving lately also don't include any links. It is extremely important that you include links when posting. Links connect people to the original source of the article establishing credibility and also allow them to read articles in full without violating copyright. I have had to find links for a number of recent stories and it is very time consuming--I'd rather just not post articles that don't include links. So please be sure to include links when submitting articles in future. Thanks, - Susan vive le canada.ca founder/head editor

Thanks for the instructions.

It's very much appreciated.

Thank you for telling us the facts and as to how to do it as well.

I was also of the understanding that to be technical the copyrights apply mainly to any specific commercial ventures, with monetary rewards associated there by .. and really not to the non profit, good Samaritan, ordinary citizen's endeavors.

On top of that I have no doubts that news reporter copy and rewrite many of my own points as to what I have written.. and I do not mind that too.

For if any of you think I have no influence on the news media.. note my term "Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hide" that was posted, written first.. and next the same reference

"This real Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hide Mr. Stephen Harper is clearly upset by the reality of the bad news media coverage he gets, and contrary to the lying spin doctors, my neighbors have expressed dismayed, shock, upset over Stephen Harper now and his dark side, his not keeping his own promises, Stephen Harper his not doing anything even about the gas price increases as he had mentioned before he would. Once a liar always a liar. What a reputation to have now too Canada wide."

next appears as

"Harper v. the press In his Dr. Jekyll mode, " Globe and Mail.. both Great too. Great minds think alike.

Thank you once again.

Ummm, that's actually been the norm for some time. If a submitter forgets the link, it just takes me a half day or so before google caches the story and I have time to chase the link down. So the story doesn't come out until I can find a link to it.

For those that submit stories with links, thank you! For those that don't, you know why your story doesn't appear; or appears in 12 hours or so.

Very true, all due credit has to be given to the writers and sources of everything submitted, otherwise we'd be behaving like Tories, and we can't have that can we?

;-)

PS Sthompson, sorry about being obnoxious earlier this week, like you I get passionate about what I believe and sometimes get carried away. Ok, really get carried away, I admit it. heh

Perhaps it's too much to ask people who don't believe in private property to respect *intellectual* property.

Wow. Two fallicies in one sentence. Why do you think this story exists to begin with?

Respect for copyright perhaps?

Hi Susan:

I'm well aware of copyright protocol, as a retired book publisher, but I
have included the entire article when submitting to Vive simply to save
you time -- so you can see the story, approve (or reject) -- and then
edit out where you think best. Doesn't Vive decide how much, or how
little, of the story to show?

I also include the link most of the time, and it's a big p.i.a. because it
can't be picked up in the cut-and-paste maneuver. Or can it? If it's
possible, perhaps someone could explain how? Thanks.

Also, while I'm at it, I think there are tremendously loyal contributors to
Vive who deserve a lot of thanks for the time they spend collecting,
trimming, and posting stories ... so ... thanks!

Disclaimer and Fair Use

The idea of a free press in America is one that we hold in the highest regard. We believe in bringing our site visitors and program listeners the widest possible array of information that comes to our attention. We have great trust and respect for the American people, and our worldwide audience, and believe them to be fully-capable of making their own decisions and discerning their own realities.

Among the thousands of articles posted here for your consideration, there will doubtless be some that you find useless, and possibly offensive, but we believe you will be perceptive enough to realize that even the stories you disagree with have some value in terms of promoting your own further self-definition and insight. Our site is a smorgasbord of material...take what you wish and click or scroll right past that which doesn't interest you.

We suggest you don't make 'assumptions' about our official position on issues that are discussed here. That is not what this site is about. We believe it to be unwise to sweep controversy under the carpet. We also firmly believe people should not only read material which they agree with. The opinions expressed through the thousands of stories here do not necessarily represent those of Mr. Rense, his radio program, his website, or his webmaster, Mr. James Neff.

We are not going to censor the news and information here. That is for you to do.

We strongly recommend not 'assuming' anything. Read, consider, and make your own informed decisions. People 'assumed' the Warren Commission report was accurate. It was not. People 'assumed' the Federal Government would never conduct biochemical experiments on the general populace. But it did, by the score. People 'assumed' the world was once flat.

One more time...

Neither Jeff Rense nor sightings.com necessarily adhere to, or endorse, any or all of the links, stories, articles, editorials, or products offered by sponsors found on this site, or broadcast on the Jeff Rense radio program.

All of the materials and data offered on this site, and on the radio program, are for informational and educational purposes only.

And remember: it's all free to you, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Thank you for visiting.

Enjoy.

Di: It's OK for Jeff Rense to give away the rights to his own material. And
generous, too.

But it's not OK -- not OK at all -- for him to suggest that anybody else's
work can be freely used by others, as if it were their own.

Copyright exists to bless and protect the artists who created the work in
the first place. Or ... how would they be able to earn a living as authors
and artists?

Vive moderator: what's with this narrow little column of text format?

Not everything is everything is as black and white as you would have us believe, BCMary
I urge you to pay stick attention to the words in the following audio.
“Lots of folks are linking to this presentation (requires Flash) by Stanford law professor and copyright-freedoms evangelist Lawrence Lessig, reportedly his swan song on the subject. Brought tears to my eyes. Take half an hour and listen to it.”
Di, copyright laws are much the same the world over, but are slightly
different in the U.S.A. So &%*@#thanks a lot but I can live without the
%$^## wise Stanford professor ... even though I am mildly curious as to
what it would take to bring tears to YOUR eyes.

You are invariably deciding that I've said something I didn't say ...
misunderstanding what I do say ... deciding that I am a Bad Person ...
you idiot ... I find you tiresome in the extreme.

You seem to go off the deep end, when I say something which might be
considered (not concidered) useful. You do it to others, too. Vive is a
good site, but you seem to spend a lot of time trying to spoil it.

Form your own opinions. State them honestly, without making your
views a blunt instrument for attacking somebody else. It would certainly
make more pleasant reading.

The Stanford Professor's ideas could probably stand alone. So you could
have presented them, couldn't you? Does his marvellous statement
really need to have another rock thrown in my direction, before you felt
comfortable with what he said?

I t appears, Mary Dearie, There is much you can live without, Harsh judgements not being one of them.
Your oh-so-clever carefully disguises expletive dilatives not with standing.
You want to know what bring tears to my eyes do you, how considerate of you! will tell you then seeing as you ask so politely.
Reading you kind words bring tears to my eyes, Tears of laughter that is!
Now that you have reduced yourself from your lofty position as ex “publisher” to that of mudslinger you may go on the attack of those who disagree with you. That in it self ought to fill the rest of your days as there has been much disagreement with your views.
And Mary, You sweet old lady you, if you don’t want rocks thrown at you.
I suggest you stop making your self a target.
Further- if you have more unpleasantries to sling
do it in a personal off site message and stop bothering the readership with anal offerings
and do please look at the words in the title box

“…you idiot ... I find you tiresome in the extreme.”

A couple of possibilities exist when it come to your thoughts, you sweet old dear you,
Alzheimer’s has finally caught up with you or you actually believe yours is the definitive voice.
I have given hosannas where you deserve them, something unnoticed by you obviously, and offered opposing views where I believe them to be deserved.

Now as for finding my “tiresome in the extreme”
You seem to have more than enough energy to respond to an “idiot”
