Email Virii

Posted on Friday, March 05 at 15:24 by Jesse
It has come to our attention that the newest email virus is masquerading as an email from vive (among other sites). It claims that your account is going to be suspended, which is bogus.

If you get an email that claims to be from "administration@vivelecanada.ca" (or similar) with an attachment, do NOT open it. It's a virus that will infect your computer. Delete it right away. We will never send files by email, especially not password protected zipfiles.

We recommend that everyone update their computer with the latest security updates, and make sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date.

I also recommend that you not use Outlook as your email client; Opera and Mozilla both have much better email clients and are orders of magnitude safer.

Note: Opera Mozilla

Yea, I got clued into this when I got an email from "The mydomain.ca Team", when I am 'the team'. I didn't remember sending it to myself :-)<p> But this is a really difficult trojan to get. You have to 1) open the attachment 2) put in the code 3) extract and save the trojan 4) find where you saved the attachment and 5) run the trojan.<p> It's like someone mailing you a grenade with a note attached saying "please pull the pin"...<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />

Yeah, but then consider how many people remain basically ignorant about viruses and don't get AV programs or send those emails to everyone in their address book saying they have a virus...there will always be someone who falls for it, unfortunately.
