World Breaks Temp Record – By 0.72 C

Posted on Saturday, March 17 at 10:34 by bracewell
In the northern hemisphere, the combined land and water temperature was the warmest ever at 0.91C, while the southern hemisphere, where it was summer, recorded a temperature 0.49C above average, which was the fourth warmest.
...... The global temperature of land surface alone during this period was also the warmest on record, while the ocean surface temperature was the equal second warmest, with the equatorial Pacific, North and South Atlantic.

The headline "World breaks temp record – by 0.72 C" is highly misleading because records only started in 1880, which when compared to geological time scales, is a blink of the eye.

There is plenty of hard evidence that shows in the past the earth was much warmer than it is today. The evidence shows that the earth cools down and warms up in cycles - resulting in many extinctions and evolutionary changes to adapt to the new climate of the epoch. It is also known that the earth only recently began dropping out of an ice age which is an ongoing process with fluctuations that go both up and down, but with a long term upward trend in temperature.

Sure, the earth is warming up - but there's NOTHING anyone can do about it. Perhaps all that garbage we throw into the atmosphere is accelerating the process, and perhaps we can slow down the warming by a small amount (if at all) - but the bottom line is that we cannot stop the warming, so get used to it.

Of course, tomorrow we may enter into another mini ice age and our politicians and tax funded scientists will be screaming that we need to pump out more GH gasses to save the world.

Before I get beat up, I'm in no way suggesting that we should keep on pumping out pollution into the atmosphere, water, and land. I'm just pointing out that the global warming scare is just another scam in a long line up of scams.

Only yesterday we were all going to die from SARS(tm) or the Bird Flu(tm), and what happened to Peak Oil(tm)? Then there was the Cold War(tm), the War on Drugs(tm), and the War on Terror(tm). Now it's the War on Global Warming(tm) and I've had more than enough of this crap.

The solution to our problems is simple, turn of your TV set and try and live a sensible life. If you see crap going on that pollutes your land, do what you can to put an end to it. That's about all we can do. Oh, and one more thing, tell the government to piss off and leave you alone.

    Rearguard,

Can only add to your thoughts that I remain to be convinced that it is possible to measure the average temperature of the planet with such an accuracy that one can conclude unequivocally from the data that a temperature rise of less than 1 degree C. has actually occurred.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that the same team, taking x number of measurements of the average temperature of the planet, would arrive at x different temperatures, the variation of which would exceed the claimed temperature rise: ie. the claimed temp. increase gets lost in the "noise" of the measurements.

Lovelock's statement that "Before this century is over, billions of us will die, and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic" is pure sensationalism.

Earth HAS been warmer in the past, that is a fact. If you don't believe me, look up the Paleozoic Era in the geological timeline.

The earth has always had fluctuating temperatures.

It's just that this time it's apparently humanity that's responsible.

Before anyone goes on a rampage about how vulnerable the Earth is, I'll remind you that this world we live on has survived numerous asteroid hits, supervolcanoes, and comet strikes.

Somewhere in our distant past we may even have survived a brush with a superflare.

Yes, the world we know is changing and things will never again, at least relative to our lifespans, be the same as they were.

And every living creature on earth, not just humankind, will have to "learn to live with it".

No one said we had to like it.

"Lovelock's statement that 'Before this century is over, billions of us will die..'"

That part may actually be true. One can say with a straight face that in 100 years time, virtually the entire worlds population of today will have expired, which is estimated to be somewhere around 6 billion.

Each day many people die of all sorts of reasons including natural causes. I don't know how many people die each day, but assuming everyone lived to 100, it would mean that each day at a minimum 166,000 people will die - which is a very low estimate because few live to 100 and many people die before reaching 40 (much of the worlds population does not enjoy what we consider to be an average lifespan).

"'.. and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic' is pure sensationalism."

Science fiction strives for sensationalism, otherwise it would be boring with no sales attached.

The two sentences you carved it into do not imply what the original said in it's original state.

Nice example of spin control btw.

You sure you're not in either management or marketing?
