Police Used Provocateurs At Montebello Protests

There is no record given by police of these individuals being arrested or charged. Further photographic evidence (http://www.cupe.ca/gallery/montebello-monday?page=4) shows these three provocateurs wearing the exact same boots as the rest of the SQ police on-site. This tactic is used by the police with the objective of obtaining an excuse to clear the streets in the middle of a demonstration as well as to create divisions between groups of demonstrators who employ different methods of resistance. The use of provocateurs, and the violence they're responsible for, is also employed to justify the gratuitous amount of security personnel at demonstrations, as well as the millions of taxpayer dollars spent by governments to discourage dissent. “Stephen Harper called the protests 'sad', but what is truly sad is that police forces in Canada are using provocateurs to incite violence and that our Prime Minister is complicit in this anti-democratic and repressive behaviour,” said Federico Carvajal of PGA Bloc Ottawa. -30- See also: http://www.thestar.com/News/article/248608 Police accused of using provocateurs at summit Aug 21, 2007 09:14 PM Canadian Press OTTAWA – Protesters are accusing police of using undercover agents to provoke violent confrontations at the North American leaders' summit in Montebello, Que. Such accusations have been made before after similar demonstrations but this time the alleged "agents provocateurs" have been caught on camera. A video, posted on YouTube, shows three young men, their faces masked by bandannas, mingling Monday with protesters in front of a line of police in riot gear. At least one of the masked men is holding a rock in his hand. The three are confronted by protest organizer Dave Coles, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada. Coles makes it clear the masked men are not welcome among his group of protesters, whom he describes as mainly grandparents. He urges them to leave and find their own protest location. Coles also demands that they put down their rocks. Other protesters begin to chime in that the three are really police agents. Several try to snatch the bandanas from their faces. Rather than leave, the three actually start edging closer to the police line, where they appear to engage in discussions. They eventually push their way past an officer, whereupon other police shove them to the ground and handcuff them. Late Tuesday, photographs taken by another protester surfaced, showing the trio lying prone on the ground. The photos show the soles of their boots adorned by yellow triangles. A police officer kneeling beside the men has an identical yellow triangle on the sole of his boot. Kevin Skerrett, a protester with the group Nowar-Paix, said the photos and video together present powerful evidence that the men were actually undercover police officers. "I think the circumstantial evidence is very powerful," he said. The three do not appear to have been arrested or charged with any offence. Police confirm that only four protesters were arrested during the summit – two men and two women. All have been charged with obstruction and resisting arrest... The yellow logo does not look like a triangle. Here's a link to what appears to be the brand of boot in question, which so happen to be made for firefighters and police!
Much more than a few golden handshake resignations are in order! Anything less than serious criminal charges by those responsible will be yet another slap in our collective faces.
The cartoonists are going to have fun for the next several days. The RCMP public relation disaster has already started. An other one. They are currently in full denial and medias from around the world are now covering that story. What a phoque oppe.
---
"We are all in this together somehow, some more than others somehow"
Given the RCMP's response to the matter, they've suggested to us that their role was to be the undercover agents posing as violent protesters.
I hope someone can ID these ass----s, here's a blog with vid captures showing their faces.
What these dirty cops have done has endangered everyone in this country, and has done a great deal of damage to the reputation of *all* police, including those who are good cops. If there are any good cops who know what happened, you'd better stand up to this kind of thing because it directly affects *you* in a negative way. The fact is that it'll be impossible to do your job without the good will of the people on your side.
Looks like the SQ has their own real life "Bon Cop, Bad Cop" situation. Incidents
like this only serve to erode the trust between the public and the members of
the police force. As the previous post noted, this make it much more difficult for
those cops who have integrity and respect the laws of society.

Officials distancing themselves from the incident only displays a lack of
    accountability on their part.
