The NDP: Fossil Or Futurist?

Posted on Sunday, May 02 at 15:52 by KevinGagnon
While passionate, the NDP leader is being careful not to come across as an angry, scary radical. On the Iraq issue, where his party's position has received considerable vindication, he has avoided provocative declarations and steered clear of attacking U.S. President George W. Bush.

I watched him on Mansbridge One-on-One tonight. Peter tried to drag him down a notch a couple of times, but I think he did very well, holding his own.

He has energy, and I like the GST idea, but consumption taxes like the GST and PST actually target all income earners, in that the more you pay for an item the more tax you pay. That makes for a level playing field.

The above article shows Jack Layton with new ideas, and spending the surplus, or at least most of it on the homeless and healthcare makes my day.

I'm beginning to think he may do ok.

    Jim,

I agree. I think what were gonna see as the election approaches, is the NDP support will go up. They won't get majority, but they will surprise their opposition.

Health Care issues is getting allot of publicity, and this being the most important issue for Canadians in the election. The parties true colors will come out into the open. The NDP will be noticed by voters with this publicity.

Sure Harper is staying pretty quite, but its just a matter of time that opposition get him to crack like Pettigrew cracked under pressure with questions from NDP Bev Desjarlais.

Harper may not seem as bad as Day, but deep down below the fake image he is the same or if not worse. Like Mulroney did, Harper has a hidden agenda. I wouldn't be surprised if he already has signing priorities with the U.S if he was to get elected.

NOW JACK IS SPEAKING MY LANGUAGE! I watched One on One too, and Mansbridge was a little abrasive. Jack did do alright, and I just hope that with all of the things the NDP are saying, they don`t go and pull a Bob Rae should they get elected. But now they`re saying the things that have been woefully missing from politico-speak for about 15 years!

Bob Rae seems to have soured the NDP. I can't speak about NDP without his name coming up. Most people are scared of this party cause of Bob Rae. Funny though how many people who I talk to only know about Bob Rae from what they heard. Many of them have no memory of those times and what really went down.

Personally I think Jack Layton is no Bob Rae.
