Canada, U.S. Relations Warming, Poll Finds

Posted on Friday, October 06 at 09:02 by jensonj
Similarly, when asked whether they view the U.S. more as a friend than a foe, 85 per cent of Canadians said a friend, compared to 73 per cent who responded that way one year ago. Similarly, 90 per cent of Americans called Canada a friend rather than a foe, up eight percentage points. The poll was conducted for the Canada Institute of the Washington-based Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the Toronto-based Canada Institute on North American Issues. The on-line poll surveyed 1,173 Canadians and 1,038 Americans between Sept. 21-26 and is accurate to within 2.9 percentage points and 3 percentage points for the respective populations. “There appears to be a warming of the relationship between the two populations,” said John Wright, senior vice-president of Ipsos-Reid, the company that conducted the survey. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20061005.wpoll05/BNStory/National/home [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 6, 2006]

    That only proves how ba'a'a'a'a'd the situation is for the people of both countries. Bush and Harper tell their loyal subjects what to think and they all obediently follow along, silently, single file...

    Well at least these guys are transparent about their views and Agendas. Why are they listed themselves as a Charity? When you look at the people involved it looks much more like a Government Forum. Maybe if they list themselves as a Charity they will get less attention from joe public. <br />
    <br />
    The Canada Institute on North American Issues(CINAI) is a registered Canadian charity, established to address critical public policy issues within the North American context. Through a series of lectures, seminars and other dialogue opportunities, CINAI programs highlight current and emerging issues within the Canada-US-Mexico relationship. <br />
    <br />
    "The Woodrow Wilson Center established the Canada Institute to explore one of America's most important bilateral relationships, but one that gets far less attention in Washington than it deserves."<br />

    Task Force Urges Measures to Strengthen North American Competitiveness, Expand Trade, Ensure Border Security <br />
    <br />

    Council on Foreign Relations <br />
    <br />
    May 17, 2005--North America is vulnerable on several fronts: the region faces terrorist and criminal security threats, increased economic competition from abroad, and uneven economic development at home. In response to these challenges, a trinational, Independent Task Force on the Future of North America has developed a roadmap to promote North American security and advance the well-being of citizens of all three countries.<br />
    <br />
    When the leaders of Canada, Mexico, and the United States met in Texas recently they underscored the deep ties and shared principles of the three countries. The Council-sponsored Task Force applauds the announced "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America," but proposes a more ambitious vision of a new community by 2010 and specific recommendations on how to achieve it. <br />

    1. Was anybody who reads ViveleCanada polled? I guess not.

    2. Is this something that "Canada's New Government" will pat itself on the back for? I guess so - we will hear it till the next election.

    3. Is this what "Canada's New Government" was elected for? I doubt it.

    <i>According to Big Brother, we'll love each other so much that we'll merge together as one big happy family - like it or not! </i><p> True and it's called branding. The North American love fest will be the hot new thing. Anything is marketable these days. Canada-U.S. relations aren't just warming, there's already a baby on the way. Someone got fucked. <p>---<br>« Il y a une belle, une terrible rationalité dans la décision d'être libre. » - Gérard Bergeron <br />

    "good" from the Americans POV in the sense that they are getting what they wanted.
