Similarly, when asked whether they view the U.S. more as a friend than a foe, 85 per cent of Canadians said a friend, compared to 73 per cent who responded that way one year ago. Similarly, 90 per cent of Americans called Canada a friend rather than a foe, up eight percentage points.
The poll was conducted for the Canada Institute of the Washington-based Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the Toronto-based Canada Institute on North American Issues. The on-line poll surveyed 1,173 Canadians and 1,038 Americans between Sept. 21-26 and is accurate to within 2.9 percentage points and 3 percentage points for the respective populations.
“There appears to be a warming of the relationship between the two populations,” said John Wright, senior vice-president of Ipsos-Reid, the company that conducted the survey.

The Canada Institute on North American Issues(CINAI) is a registered Canadian charity, established to address critical public policy issues within the North American context. Through a series of lectures, seminars and other dialogue opportunities, CINAI programs highlight current and emerging issues within the Canada-US-Mexico relationship. <br />
<br />
"The Woodrow Wilson Center established the Canada Institute to explore one of America's most important bilateral relationships, but one that gets far less attention in Washington than it deserves."<br />

<br />
May 17, 2005--North America is vulnerable on several fronts: the region faces terrorist and criminal security threats, increased economic competition from abroad, and uneven economic development at home. In response to these challenges, a trinational, Independent Task Force on the Future of North America has developed a roadmap to promote North American security and advance the well-being of citizens of all three countries.<br />
<br />
When the leaders of Canada, Mexico, and the United States met in Texas recently they underscored the deep ties and shared principles of the three countries. The Council-sponsored Task Force applauds the announced "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America," but proposes a more ambitious vision of a new community by 2010 and specific recommendations on how to achieve it. <br />

"I am Diogenes the Dog. I nuzzle the kind, bark at the greedy and bite scoundrels."
2. Is this something that "Canada's New Government" will pat itself on the back for? I guess so - we will hear it till the next election.
3. Is this what "Canada's New Government" was elected for? I doubt it.
