Future Of Health Care?

Posted on Thursday, April 01 at 16:04 by FreeCanada
An aging population that has been eating fast food and smoking for 50 years (not to mention living in generally polluted environments)is in need of the services that they built with their tax dollars. By not committing to Romanow and not pledging more money, it seems clear the PM is looking for other options, which one can only assume to be some kind of two-tier health care system(which goes beyond the semi-two tiered one we have now). Note: this agenda will be taken care of this summer! Most likely FOLLOWING the election. Ladies and gents, something has to be done to stop this paradigm shift from happening. If there is a time to defend canadian values and institutions the time is now!

Well it doesn't exactly help when the NDP uses environment, as one of their main election focuses. Don't get me wrong, the environment and the NDP plans are great. But if they really want to hit the main Canadian concern, they should be going after the health care issue. The NDP should be the party openly saying that they will implement the full Romanow Report.

The NDP should make it known that the Martin and Harper people are trying to bring a two-tier health care system to Canada. They need to reveal to Canadians that they are the only party who are going to keep a public universal health care system.

Martin is making a huge assumption, of which I hope he is wrong, that he will be meeting with the premiers in the summer...if he calls a spring election he may be meeting with them on his own time, not ours!

It is time for a general strike across the country!!! We have to find a way to organize it!!! If we lose health care, it`s over!!!

I agree Dave. We should have a protest across Canada. Can you imagine if each province had protest on the streets. Kind of like the peace protest.

I was reading in Maude Barlow's book where she said that Alberta has the most chance of becoming the first privatized province. She also stated that cause of NAFTA once one province becomes privatized, all other provinces won't be protected cause of some rules that are in NAFTA.

She also explained how once the health care is privatized, there's almost no going back as long as we have NAFTA, cause again under NAFTA Chapter 11 the companies would take the Canadian government for a very expensive ride in lawsuits for loss profits.

So basically the more privatization we allow in any province, the more the chance that we will not be able to protect our health care. From what I understand the NAFTA is able to be abolished after 5 years. The MAI is a different story. That agreement is supposedly going to have a 30 year span where the government can't turn back from it.

FTA/NAFTA can be abrogated legally after 6 months.......the MAI may have some ridiculous limit, but, ANY sovereign nation can make it up as they go along, as long as they can enforce their decision. International laws mean little if the will to do something exists.

Anything in a democratic country can be changed if the will of the people is behind it. (And their well being too especially)

Premier Campbell of BC has announced that he will not be signing the new contract that was negotiated by the Health care workers in BC. Instead he will be bringing in a private company from the USA along with Mexican workers to do the job. Also he has said there are not enough skilled trades people to do the road and other types of construction necessary for the olympics so he is bringing in 10,000+ skilled trades workers to do the work (also for less). These workers are also reportedly coming from Mexico.
The current contract expires May 3(or thereabouts) and I am told the Health care workers plan a wildcat strike for May 1.
I think Maude is wrong, I think all the right wing sell out premiers are going to try to dismantle everything at once. Finish us off in one fell swoop.
