Canada Continues To Have Independent Approach To Cuba: MacKay

Posted on Thursday, August 03 at 17:06 by jensonj
Canada has maintained friendly trade relations with Cuba, continuing even as the country turned to communism under Castro in the 1960s and the Americans broke off diplomatic relations in 1961. That relationship became even closer when the friendship of Liberal prime minister Pierre Trudeau and Castro blossomed. Castro attended Trudeau's state funeral in 2000. Relations became frosty during the government of Jean Chrétien, when Castro snubbed efforts to have political prisoners released in his country. Several Cuban athletes also defected to Canada while participating in the 1999 Pan-Am Games in Winnipeg. Still, Canada has never supported Washington's 40-year blockade of Cuba, opting for a policy of constructive engagement with the country. Canadian business also continues to flourish on the island, and hundreds of thousands of Canadian sun-worshippers flock to Cuba each year. MacKay said that all that's left to do now is wait to see what unfolds. "Everyone is waiting in anticipation to see whether the health of Mr. Castro will improve. Many countries now are waiting to see if there will be some sort of mass exodus from Cuba, there's no way to predict if that will happen at all." http://www.680news.com/news/national/article.jsp?content=n080365A [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on August 4, 2006]

More status queue from the Government that represents change?

Sounds like the Con Men are waiting for offcial word from DC before moving on this one. They're probably just buying some time prior to announcing a not so transparent "subtle" policy change toward Cuba.<br />
    <br />
Poor McKay, they're stipping the guy of his complete identity. One of the few redeeming features of a politician is a dynamic personality, something the Cons seem to discourage. They're playing scared and indecisively, as their public image and credibility continues to plummet.<br />

"More status queue from the Government that represents change?"
the phrase 'status queue' is unknown to me
May I have its meaning please
I make it to mean status line

    There is a status line?
    (a)Is it an above/below line?
    (b) Is it an over/under line?
    (C) A this side/That side line?
It must be a Demarcation line of some sort

    Or

Status quo is a Latin term meaning the present, current, existing state of affairs
    I get it!!
    it is Status quo
    as spoken by Inspector Cleauseu

    (an attempt at comic relief)

Castro's ailing health and hospitalization caught the Americans unprepaired. Or so says the Whitehouse. The Americans were quick to reapond upon the news though. They stated that they already had a plan to bring democracy to Cuba. The Canadian government was also unprepaired and I'm sure Harper must feel bad about no being told of the American plan. Perhaps the American's felt that Canada hasn't enough warheads nor troops, to bring democracy to Cuba. Maybe the USA is planning on using their friends, the Israeli, to bring democracy to Cuba. Harper can use Canada as a cheering section.

Wow, I'm completely shocked. When the Second Bay of Pigs invasion commences, though, I'm sure we will jump on the US bandwagon again.

MacKay's word cannot be trusted on Cuba or any other issue. There are already plans afoot in the US to take advantage of Castro's failing health and initiate regime change there.

Mackay has learned to mimic George's jargon well when he refers to bringing democracy to foreign countries. As with Afghanistan and Iraq , and so many others before, when the US talks democracy things are going to get bloody and the outcome is subjugation not democracy.

When the crunch comes on Cuba, Canada's traditional relationship with that country will be gone and Mackay the feckless, unprincipled choir boy will echo the American tune.
