Canada Should Seize This Historic Moment

Meeting Paul Martin on Capitol Hill, the ranking Democrat on the Senate foreign relations committee suggested that our neighbourly duty is to help the United States out of its quagmire in Iraq.

But the Prime Minister has only a limited vision: using part of our $300 million commitment to Iraq to train Iraqis in police, judicial and election work.

Biden wants us to parlay our anti-war credentials to mediate between the United States and its estranged allies, plus entice NATO and other peace-keeping forces to Iraq. He is right.

I don't think he is right. The US wants somebody else to keep law and order while they continue to run everything else. Well to hell with them, they made this god damn mess and if they want our help they can get the hell out of Iraq and let us deal with the irradiated shell shocked survivors.
Don't get sucked in by some smooth talking, suit wearing fascist.

If you read all of Siddiqui's article, you will see he is proposing that Canada ask the US to give over complete control in Iraq to the UN. Everyone knows the US would refuse this, thereby covering its face with more raw egg. So following his suggestion wouldn't accomplish much, but what's wrong with a little more egg on their face? Essentially Siddiqui is calling for the same gesture as Naomi Klein, but with a more diplomatic spin.

I would support this, only we can`t send our troops into a cesspool of depleted uranium. What a mess!

The UN should go in only if the US goes out. Canadians should only go in if the US goes out. The country will have to be swept with geiger counters to remove all the depleted uranium slugs and shrapnel before Rumsfield claims that they finally found the WMD's that they said were there.

On that note, I think they should send the U.S. admin, bush and co and all the intelligence they've got as well as their British counterparts, into Iraq first to clean up the uranium and then once it's a 'safe' environment we can agree to help out through the U.N. and send in our troops in space suits with respirators, instead of spending the money going to Mars or Missile Defence shields. The only shields we need, are full body condoms for our military to clean up the diseases the warmongers have created!
