Uncle Sam May Soon Come Knocking

Iraq's election is rekindling a bitter debate in this country over George W. Bush.

"Bush was right," Toronto Star columnist Richard Gwyn wrote following the Sunday vote in which millions of Iraqis came out to cast ballots.

In the Globe and Mail, commentator Marcus Gee called the vote a triumph for the U.S. president, while National Post columnist and former White House speechwriter David Frum wrote the election turnout proves that most Iraqis have endorsed Bush's rationale for invading their country in the first place.

From the other side, Bush's critics are shooting back. This newspaper's Antonia Zerbisias noted that during the Vietnam War, the U.S.-backed Saigon government also enjoyed large election turnouts.

Yeah, and Linda McQuaig in her Sunday column from the same paper (Toronto Star) had it more correct in saying that the Iraq's are participating in the "election" as means of finally getting the US out.
She also gives interesting information about how an election was the last thing the Bush regime wanted in Iraq but were pretty much forced into it. Linda McQuaig column, Toronto Star

Linda McQuack and Harroon Siddiqui in the Toronto Star both bent themselves over backwards to assert that the election was purely an Iraqi triumph - they're both so dumb it's laughable that they get paid for their drivel. They only barely, and very resentfully, acknowledge that there wouldn't even be an election if not for US intervention - too funny!

Meanwhile, they'll both keep looking up to the all-powerful USA of their dreams, in awe of American intelligence, majesty and ability to control every aspect of everyone's life on the planet - and they'll keep wishing they had such power...
