In the days that followed Chrétien's decision, Clark said the prime minister was pandering to Quebec, where opposition to the war ran higher than anywhere else and where an election was in the offing that would pit Jean Charest's federalist troops against the Parti Québécois.

I agree, Clark was NEVER the red tory he is trying to look like now. He`s right about Harper, but all this is, is to try to sway more voters to the liberals.

Of course he was a red tory (he rode in the gay pride parade for chrissakes). But keep in mind the guy is a tried and true Canadian conservative so he does hold conservative views.

You know when you think about that gay pride parade; for a man of his generation that took alot of guts; my respect for Joe never wavers...I really think he was shafted by his own party a long time ago.

Clark was for free trade, and continental integration. That`s not red to me! And I`ve never heard Clark talk out in favour of the Romanow report! It`s good that he went in the gay pride parade- if he actually believed in gay rights. But I don`t think he did it for the right reasons.

    Hi Dave

Clark was one of the only politicians that I have seen quoted in a news paper article saying that it was time that we reviewed the trade deal to ensure that workers rights were respected. I am looking for that article which appeared in the National Post a few years ago.

But that said we have to get on forming that one big party that has as one of its principles fair trade.
