AgCan NOT Ending Testing Of RoundUp Ready Wheat--Monsanto

In related news, Monsanto had decided NOT to pursue registration of any of its products-- including the RoundUp ready wheat--this year, instead asking for another year of testing. They say this has nothing to do with concerns about market or farmers and that it won't affect the commercialization of the wheat, since there's no deadline for that.

    Maybe we\'ll get a rewrite and the whole story,in a couple of years? Or an edited version and a form apology later.

    I just finished watching the news on CTV and CBC, and they specifically said in plain terms that 80% of countries and farmers do not want their GM wheat, so they may drop the production of it. Nobody wants to buy it.

    That doesn\'t mean they will drop their GM canola, according to the report.

    It looks hopeful, I for one do not like the idea of consuming anything that is genetically modified. I don\'t like being a guinea pig for corporations.

    I wrote to the government back in high school about opposing GM foods after I did a school report on the topic. They sent me a stack of papers about how they were making sure it was safe. Maybe the financial side of it is what will finally make them listen. People are voting with their wallets now.

    Exactly. In a time when people leave everything up to \"the market\" if the market says no, they likely will too.

    The Canadian Wheat Board is opposing RoundUp Ready Wheat for exactly that reason--no market for it, and no proof it wouldn\'t spread around in the non-GM wheat and destroy Canadian wheat markets altogether.

    I\'m curious to see the outcome of the Schmeiser case...
