Health Minister Open To `Options' Wants For-Profit Services Explored

[Should we maybe make the firing of Pierre Pettigrew as an election issue for Martin? let's all email him and get a email campaign to have him fired. His really starting to scare me this guy. Then again that's probably exactly the type of person Martin wants doing that job. I guess this Pettigrew is showing Martin's true colors.--Kevin]

Remarks draw fire from critics

MARY GORDON
OTTAWA BUREAU

OTTAWA?Canada's health minister says he's open to exploring private health-care delivery with the provinces as long as it doesn't violate the Canada Health Act.

Pierre Pettigrew told the Commons health committee yesterday there's nothing in the rules of medicare to prevent for-profit companies from delivering health services, as long as the government ? the "single payer" ? pays the bills.

Man, this just gets more depressing as we go along. Where do these losers get the nerve to ignore what the majority of Canadians want, especially when they aren`t even elected! I say we all bombard Martin and Pettigrew with e-mails claiming STRONGLY that we oppose ANY form of privatization!!! Who`s with me? Oh, HIGH PRAISE for Bill blaikie and the NDP once again! Blaikie brought up the issue of how Martin and the liberals have virtually ignored the Romanow Report!

How much did we have to pay for the Romanow Report only to have it ignored? These guys just don't care... It's disheartening

Let's be thankful that all this is causing health care issue to get allot of publicity. With allot of publicity and people like Pettigrew letting things slip. This will help Canadians see through the Liberal Party. I believe that allot of Canadians are going to vote NDP in this upcoming election. As long as health care becomes the number one election issue, Canadians will move away from supporting the new conservatives cause its obvious where they stand on health care, and we will also start to see Canadians move their support away from the Liberal's when they start to see through them.

The conservatives don't have any support from any Canadian who wants a publicly funded health care system. Since the majority of Canadians do support a publicly funded health care, we shouldn't worry too much about the new conservatives getting elected.

    Yes. Let's push this issue.

I still can't forget those scary words he said at the WTO summit. Anyone
    else see The Corporation?

I'd be happy to start a campaign on this issue. I'll wave a flag when I
    have it set up.
