Canada Sees Acceptance Of Softwood Deal With US

"I'm actually feeling better today than I did two weeks ago," Emerson said in a telephone interview. "The provincial governments, who in a way are aggregators of industrial interests in their regions, are becoming more accepting that this deal is a very good deal for Canada," he added. Canada-U.S. trade relations have been poisoned for the past several years by the softwood dispute, which flared after U.S. lumber firms accused their Canadian rivals of selling the lumber in the United States at below-market prices. http://ca.today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=uri:2006-07-21T191852Z_01_N21129640_RTRIDST_0_NEWS-TIMBER-CANADA-EMERSON-COL.XML&pageNumber=0&summit=

Here is the most important part of the article and it shows the Harper/Conservative agenda for Canadian Trade.

    >>Critics of Canada's trade dependence on the United States -- 85 percent of all exports go there -- urge Ottawa to seek more trade deals with powerhouses like China, India and Japan.

But for Emerson, the best way for Canada to remain competitive is not to diversify, but to boost exports and investment within North America. That can only happen if the acrimony over softwood ends.

"That's why it's so important that issues like softwood lumber get resolved, not only for the good of the softwood lumber industry but for the good of the North American relationship," he said.<<<

Canadians have to demand Canadian producers and suppliers start to look after their own domestic markets first and foremost as well as processing our own raw materials.

It is now clear that looking after our own domestic markets first and foremost as well as having a diversified foreign trade with other countries other then the United States, will Canada be able to enforce a level playing field with outside markets and free trade agreements with the United States.

This is why Canadian's and Canadian Business can not compete in the international market place and in the United States of America because our Government won't demand and fight for a level playing field or even protect our markets by diversify them.

We keep putting our eggs in one basket. If you told Canadians that you could only invest your money in one investment only instead of diversifing your invesstments we all would go broke.

    I BELIEVE IN……

That Canadians receive fair and equitable treatment under local and international law whether you are in Canada or any other Country that Canada has diplomatic relations with. That what is expected in one Country by its citizens is received equally in these other Countries by our citizens, no exceptions.

That both Countries Canada and the United States of America have a level playing field receiving equally the same rights and protection of basic rights in Business, Trade, Travel and Human rights as citizens of our perspective countries as well as Government Federal, Provincal and State programs that assist industry growth.
