Motion To Follow Kyoto In Parlament - Passes!

Posted on Friday, October 06 at 17:29 by drcaleb
The legislation could force the government to deliver a plan that would honour Canada's Kyoto commitments even though the Conservatives have called those targets unrealistic . Critics said the government is sending a clear message that it wants to turn Canadians into ''outlaws'' by ignoring international law that requires Canada along with about 160 countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions below 1990 levels. ''The prime minister of Canada is saying: 'I want Canada to be an outlaw,''' said Montreal area Liberal MP Pablo Rodriguez, who tabled the private member's bill, C-288. ''It's a (weird) message to be sending to the population.'' http://tinyurl.com/zruqq

    Score one for the environment.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.

You go Pablo, show Ms. Tar Thumb why that, come election time, Quebec may end up being a grave concern for her. Politics has a way of making one eat his/her own words.

Basically, the Conservative Government is grossly misrepresenting Canadians as uncaring and indifferent toward their environment. The decisions of a very few are reflecting negatively on the entire populace.

An Environment Minister from Alberta??? No conflict of interest or special interest connection there, hey? No offense, but an Aboriginal or Ethnic Environment Minister would offer the most credibility to this position.

Saw where Harper skipped the vote and flew off to watch the Sens-Leafs game in TO with his kid. Finally, the guy does something no red blooded Canadian would ever disapprove of.

Sure, Kyoto, was another obvious Liberal cash grab - and a big one at that. Over the past few years, Canadian air quality has diminished considerably. To clean this mess up, nuclear energy and alternative fuel sources need to be implemented on a wide scale. The scorched earth policies need to be curtailed.

Scientists are screaming their heads off regarding the doomsday effects of global warming (one theory even suggesting it caused the extinction of the mighty dinosaurs). An anology was made by one writer which stated the government is basically shuffling the sun chairs on the Titanic. I guess those chairs will come in real handy at the bottom of the ocean.

So he skips the vote, eh? Nice of Harper to face it like a man instead of running off like a pansy ass wuss.

PM Harper has all the courage of a 6 foot schoolyard bully picking on a 4 foot tall, deaf, dumb, and blind first grader in a wheelchair for their lunch money.

Harper the "Cut and run" coward. Now if he would run as fast from a war without foundation, we might count him as a man. Maybe he should share his Woodrow Wilson award with those who have paid for the "tough" choices of leadership veneer he has covered his cowardly hide with.

Due to the layout giving English and French on the same page it is difficult to copy extracts from the official wording of this bill but it basically says that “ within 60 days of passing the minister shall prepare a plan of measures to ensure that Canada meets its obligations and for each measure indicate the date which it shall come into effect”. If it goes through the rest of the process I wonder exactly what kind of reports and measures we will see proposed.
The full bill maybe viewed at:- http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:MOlPaF2Jn18J:www.parl.gc.ca/PDF/39/1/parlbus/chambus/house/bills/private/C-288_1.PDF+C-288&hl=en&gl=ca&ct=clnk&cd=4
I am glad that the opposition from all partys has shown some leadership on this and hope that they will continue to hold Harpoons feet to the fire on this and other issues which he seems determined to ignore the majority opinion on.
