US Vice-President Cheney To Attend Fraser Institute Dinner In Calgary

Posted on Saturday, August 20 at 16:40 by notacolony.ca
Guests will pay $5,000 to $10,000 a plate for the dinner, scheduled for Sept 8. Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell and former Ontario premier Mike Harris are expected to attend. Walker said the dinner is not about trade issues. He is a fishing buddy of Cheney's, and counts him as a personal friend. The trip was announced by Klein at the premiers' conference in Banff on August 12, although neither a detailed itinerary nor confirmed dates have been released. It is being characterized as a "primer" for Cheney on the oilsands projects. Prior to this visit, Klein had travelled twice to Washington D.C. to meet with Cheney. The visit will be Cheney's first to Calgary since he re-entered politics as President George W. Bush's running mate. In 2000, he spoke to the World Petroleum Congress in Calgary, while he was in charge of energy giant Halliburton. Well, considering that the oil industry is said to be one of the biggest supporters of the Fraser Institute, no suprise they've had the world's bigger oil robber baron as an honored guest.

Wow big surprise - Canadian sellouts speaking and probably groveling to an imperialist.

Can't wait to see who the invited guests are. Easy enough to guess a dozen off the top of your head. Walker has given us a head start, Klein, Harris and Campbell. Personally I hope they don't send me an invitation, I would have to decline, $5,000 is a bit steep. The bad news is, there should be enough cash raised to keep this outfit going for a few more years.

Anyone live close by? Run up to him, grab ahold of him and declare a citizens arrest in the name of the International Criminal Court. He is a war criminal and should be tried as such.

Who's the award for in this instance? Cheney or the citizen? And are you sure about the evolutionary naming of such an award?

Why do Canadians incite hate and violence with their speech. Are you just too stupid to realize words have consequences or are you too vapid to care? I would hope the former where you could learn to tone down the emotional rhetoric, but I fear the latter where your hate speech will only inspire more hate and violence around you.

um, I don't see any hate speech or incitement of hate. What exactly are you referring to? What part of the article is emotional rhetoric, exactly?

These days , even the slightest disagreement , negative opinion or even complaining about illegal softwood lumber tariffs automatically makes one an Anti-American

Better get used to it, I'm afraid.

jesse,

I’d guess that Anonymous was referring to the article’s comments rather than to the article itself — probably equating the several opinions of Cheney and Klein to hate speech.

As far as I can tell, according to the relevant legislation, those comments are not “hate propaganda” (as defined by Canadian law) because the subjects of the comments do not form an “identifiable group” according to their colour, race, religion, or ethnic origin.

---
Shatter your ideals upon the rock of Truth.
Since the dinner is not intended as a forum for talking trade and since the softwood lumber situation defies any sign of friendship, we can rest assured that the premier of BC will reply with a resounding NO to his invitation.
