Harper Not Keen To Supply Peacekeepers For Mideast Mission

Posted on Wednesday, July 26 at 08:40 by nancymarie
Harper has sided with Israel since military air strikes began in southern Lebanon, blaming the current crisis on the Hezbollah militant organization. "I think what is important if we are going to resolve this problem in the long term is that we get governments in the region that are dedicated to peace and stability for all sides, and are prepared to deal with these kinds of extremist and terrorist security threats. Harper said that the solution lies "in these sovereign states themselves." He also said efforts to evacuate Canadian citizens from Lebanon are winding down and will end soon. By the end of the operation, Foreign Affairs expects about 10,000 Canadians will have been moved out. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2006/07/25/harper-lebanon.html [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on July 26, 2006]

To quote Kevin Myers, The Daily Telegraph, in Britain

“And as always, Canada will now bury its dead, just as the rest of the world as always will forget its sacrifice, just as it always forgets nearly everything Canada ever does. It seems that Canada's historic mission is to come to the selfless aid both of its friends and of complete strangers, and then, once the crisis is over, to be well and truly ignored.”

    That's why I just couldn't resist.

Thanks for posting the web page. I have the article but forgot to take down the site.

Afghanistan is far from honourable, not even close. Neither was the former Yugoslavia, or Rwanda or Somalia. Neither was Korea. World War 2 is debatable, World War 1 Canada had no choice as it WAS Britain. Anybody that thinks history is like the rosy picture doesn't know much history.

This article and Harpers position shows just how much of a lunatic he is. He is clearly saying that either he wants full fledged war in the area, or else he wants Israel to wipe out the Palestinians altogether. Neither of those choices are very pleasant, and while international peacekeepers aren't always the greatest, they are far better than the options.

Harper is truly an embarassment on the political stage. Notice the quote doesn't just say that he doesn't want Canadian soldiers there (its far better for them to be committing war crimes in Haiti), but that NOBODY should.

The world will have wars as long as man exist, we just keep taking turns on blaming who started. When the heat gets hot we talk peace and yet sometimes while talking peace we profit from war and play both sides. If we look at history since the last hundred years every war or police movement Canada has been involved one way or another.Governments will never say war is profitable sometimes you feel life is not important to the leaders. Man is a dominating species we are destin and determined to distroy ourselves

That's a little pessimistic. For every person fighting in war, there are millions living in peace. The vast majority of people are content to live in peace. Those who hold power want to keep it, to keep it they must keep people frightened. There is no genetic propensity to violence, in fact the vast majority of the world proves the opposite.

Close to what I was thinking today.
1/ The Israelis cannot gain anything with the actions they are taking at the moment UNLESS they wipe all of their Arab neighbours off the map! Stop, and they have created millions more that hate them and wish them gone. There is an endless supply of Islamic people and now others that are being angered against them right now. Israel gone.

2/ With the USA basically letting Israel go at it I had the thought that unless the US helps Israel wipe its neighbours off the map Israel will be exterminated trying to do it themselves. Israel gone! So does the USA/Harper actually WANT Israel exterminated because they will never, ever win the war against Islam? Stranger things are going on......

There was a book that came out a few years back called Who Am I? that theorised that there are 16 genetically-based fundamental desires, and that part of what makes us who we are is how important each of those 16 is to our happiness; although violence was not one of the 16, vengeance was.

---
Shatter your ideals upon the rock of Truth.
