Missile Defence Action?

Posted on Friday, January 09 at 16:44 by sthompson
Missile defence is a huge sovereignty issue. The government says that the only way to defend out sovereignty is to join or at least discuss joining it; however, joining missile defence may actually decrease our sovereign ability to pursue other solutions to international arms proliferation, such as treaties banning WMD. So we should run an actin on this, but what sort of action? The NDP is raising money for newspaper ads. Ceasefire.ca is allowing people to send email faxes to reps. Local peace groups in Alberta are sending the government home-made missiles made out of cardboard tubes. What can we do? Restrictions--it shouldn't be too expensive, it should be online or make use of online tools, and it should focus on the issue of sovereignty. Send ideas to advisory@vivelecanada.ca and board@vivelecanada.ca please. Thanks.

A lobbying campaign to the current Members of Parliament might be a place to start. Here is a link to the current cabinet members: <p> http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/senatorsmembers_cabinet.asp?Language=E&Parl=37&Ses=1&Sect=mincur <p> Here is a link to all MPs:<P> http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/senmemb/house/members/CurrentMemberList.asp?Language=E&Parl=37&Ses=1&Sect=hoccur&Order=PersonOfficialLastName <P> and a link to all current Senators (some are sure to be awake): <P> http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/SenatorsMembers_senate.asp?Language=E&Parl=37&Ses=1&Sect=sencur <P> Paul Harris

I think that that is a good idea Paul. Your link to current MP's does not work anymore, here is the new link: <a href="http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/SenatorsMembers_house.asp?Language=E&Parl=37&Ses=1&Sect=hoccur">Current List of MPs</a>
