[With these kinds of things happening, it makes you wonder why this new conservative party supports these kinds of for profit health services.]

(AP) Just a day after undergoing a hysterectomy, Ruby Calad had to leave a Houston hospital because her insurance company would not pay for a longer stay.

A few days later, she was rushed to the emergency room with complications she says could have been avoided had she remained hospitalized.

Good thing the government's letting those hospitals in Toronto get privatised, eh?

You know Kory it doesn't help with Canadian elect politicians who make these things happen. Then again allot of it has to do with false promise.

The liberals for example try to make you believe (almost convincing) that they believe in a public health care system and are committed to keeping this system. But on the other hand the former health minister who is doing a new job with the liberals said in response to Jack Layton that the privatization of health care in some provinces is up to the premiers of those provinces to do what they want.

I know.. privatisation has taken a new turn where they all just pass the cuts and corresponding responsibility down to lesser powers. And eventually some school administrators or hospitals have to decide how to make the cuts themselves. It's never the PM saying "we're taking money away from dialysis machines" or "we're cutting the funding for the band program in all schools"... they just tell the provinces to cut their budgets. Or freeze them while inflation occurs for everything else.

But when they give new funding it's always for something specific. They encourage an emotional response to anything positive but avoid it for anything that would encite any type of negative feelings.

Having a judge declare pre-election lies to be legal doesn't help. That goes completely against the principles of democracy. People are meant to vote for someone without any reliable concept of what they'll do? SO instead of voting for idealogies and policies, we rely on our ability to judge liars and honest folk, then vote for someone who may or may not provide the policies and idealogies that we support. It goes against the concept of self-determination. I don't understand the judge who ruled this.

Seems to me that if a politician lies in order to get a job that pays $80k or more per year, that is a serious problem.

It's like a bank robber saying "I won't rob this bank" and then walking away with the cash.

    Duh ??

Way to go, judge !! Keeps my faith in the justice system !

I don't know what kind of case this was in, but it should be taken to the Supreme Court. It's a black eye on the face of democracy. And it debilitates Canadians.

I agree we have a major problem with health care in Canada also, and the thought of HMO's coming here, scares the poop out of me!

I have experience Alberta's hospitals, in 1982-83 childbirth, and then later in the last 4 years; what a difference the cuts have made! Laundry is shipped out of Calgary hospitals to a main laundry in Edmonton, just the travel expense alone must be outrageous. Now Klein is threatening again, cuts, changes etc. 'healthcare is not sustainable' ....that is just b.s., Alberta is the riches province in Canada, we are one of two that pay premiums and they are quite significant if you never use the system!

    Whelan,

I do have some sympathy for the provinces. Sure some of the provinces are wealthier then others, but allot of that wealth is transfered to Ottawa and not distributed properly.

So cause Ottawa is not distributed this wealth properly, many provinces are being forced to privatise health care, or at least some parts of it, which will lead to full privatisation.

The provinces won't be able to fund health care (without privatisation) until Ottawa raises the funding to 25% as the Romanow report has already stressed.
