Mr. Harper, You Forgot To Mention Our Position On Apartheid!

Posted on Friday, April 20 at 21:53 by JimmyD
"I don't know who has been briefing Mr. Harper," said Ms. May, "but we are calling for nothing of the sort. The Green Party calls for stable funding for our peace-keeping forces. "I wonder when Mr. Harper will get around to digging up other gems from the Green Party vaults, such as: The Green Party calls on South Africa to end apartheid." In a series of questions to Opposition Leader Stephane Dion posted on the Conservative Party website, the ruling party perpetrates more lies about Green Party policy: Harper lie: Does he agree that Canada should pull out of NAFTA as the Green Party does? The truth: We are proposing to give notice to pull out unless we can renegotiate a trade deal that is actually honoured by the United States. By ignoring the final NAFTA Tribunal ruling, the United States has effectively undermined the treaty. Harper lie: Does he agree that the budget of the Canadian Forces should be reduced by 50% as the Green Party does? Truth: This is simply not true. This is pretending an older position is still in effect when in fact it was rescinded years ago. Harper Lie: Does he agree that Canada should consider pulling out of NATO and abandon our allies in Afghanistan? The truth: The Green Party does not advocate withdrawal from NATO. Our policy for Afghanistan is to shift Canadian troops to Kabul and Northern Afghanistan to assist with reconstruction efforts and to replace them in Southern Afghanistan with other nations of a non-Christian heritage that will not reinforce the very effective "Jihad" (Holy War) propaganda of the Taliban. Harper lie: Does he agree with the Green Party candidate in Vancouver-Kingsway who described the murder of almost 3,000 people in the 9-11 terrorist attacks as "beautiful"? The Truth: The Green Party not only does not agree with these statements, it has declined to accept Mr. Potvin as its candidate in Vancouver-Kingsway. Green Party policy is transparently and democratically adopted at national policy conventions. After policies are adopted at a convention, Green Party members ratify policy by mail-in ballot. http://www.greenparty.ca/en/www.greenparty.ca/en/releases/19.04.2007 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on April 23, 2007]

Well the Green Party must be rattling a few in Ottawa, otherwise they would
never make mention of these issues. You don't attack unless you think you
have an enemy or competitor...this is good news for Canadians...let's hope we
start hearing that the Green Party or anyone else is saying NO to the unholy
union called Fortress America or NAU or SPP! That may just get some
Canadians to wake up to reality....wouldn't it be lovely?

Let's see does the Green party say no to foreign investment? How about to
using the Bank of Canada to fund Canada's infrastructure? How about no fly
lists? Are they saying no we can't build electric cars in Canada? Wow that
would be fantastic, might even solve the economic crisis the Cons are
claiming if we try to stop pollution! Good to hear the Cons are concerned
about someone and aren't quite as sure of themselves as they have been.

I got a chuckle from this exchange...

    First this:
"the Conservative Party has been combing the Green Party's policy archives and presenting outdated positions as if they were current party policy."

    Followed by this:
"The Green Party calls for stable funding for our peace-keeping forces."

Excuse me May, but that's a little "outdated" don't ya think? Canadian forces have been hard at work creating war instead of peace for several years now. How about we see stable funding for the benefit of Canada for a change?

    Harper lie? The truth?

All I see is a fancy fencing match with both opponents wielding very long and growing noses.

If only the Green Party WAS for reducing the military budget by 50% and getting out of NAFTA!
