CIBC And The Patriot Act

According to this link, provided courtesy of Ontario Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish's website, there are a few Canadian companies that we need to keep an eye on. The vital excerpt from CIBC's new privacy policy:
...information may be processed and stored in the United States and that United States governments, courts or law enforcement or regulatory agencies may be able to obtain disclosure of my information through the laws of the United States. ( Patriot Act)

[I'm really starting to respect Ms. Parrish; not only is she speaking her mind honestly, but she's apparently doing good research about vital issues like this. --JvH]

There's nothing wrong with Carolyn Parrish's dissent and lobbying, except that as an MP she needs to learn from the Americans and do it covertly instead of loudly.

Before the media twists what she says all out of context.

To hell with that, she NEEDS to tell us LOUDLY AND DIRECTLY her exact, uncensored position. That's what a POLITICIAN is SUPPOSED TO BE. No spin, no pundit expert, no agenda, no manipulation. Just the truth as they see it. The truth resonates. People know when they hear the truth. They know most of what they get isn't true. This resonates.

No censorship. No filtering. Keep it direct. However controversial it may be.

Yep you can all hold hands with Carolyn when she's disposed from the halls of power and no longer in a position to exert real influence.

What? She's been elected three times. It won't be popular to get rid of her, and a NEW PArrish could develop.

Or she can end up (forcefully) writing a door stopper like Sheila Copps ;)

Or she can stand for what she believes in rather than making believe that being a "yes man" is the only way of having an influence on the events of the day. Comparing Sheila Copps to Carolyn Parrish is not appropriate, Copps isn't in the same class. Actions have consequences just like lack of action. There is no free ride. You can stay on your knees or you can stand tall, your choice.

She would have been ousted already if she did not have the support of a majority of the Liberal caucus. She should continue to speak her mind.

Now would be a good time for Carolyn Parish's constituents and the rest of you who support her to act like Quebeckers and organise a massive protest over her ousting from Cabinet. But of course, we all know that won't happen.

You're right, Samuel. As far as standing up to government goes, Canadians are doves in sheepskin.

That's strange, Google News Canada had the Parish expulsion as the top ranking news event with links to columns from around the world and suddenly there is nothing to be found on the subject?

Perhaps you aught to look at the first story right now in that link you provided. It's the one you're looking for. The second Link is back here to Vive.
