We have had a succession of governments that have been especially good at saying one thing and doing quite another. While Pat Carney herself may well have been earnest (and honest) in her comments, as a representative of B.Mulroney's government, she helped promalgate the (false) notion that FTA somehow involved the world, and not simply the US.

Oh yeah, it`s obvious we`ve been sucked into the US vortex, then pulled away from the rest of the world.

Canada's trade will always be primarily with the US, there's no way around it, they have a large market and we want to sell. The cost of transporting stuff to other markets eats away at the profits of Canadian companies, if it can be sold without those added costs, that's the way it will go. Taxing products going to the States would be the only way to make trade with the rest of the world a more profitable venture, but it is doubtful Canadians would want to do this because of the resulting job losses.

Yeah, right, most of our trade has always been with the USA, and always will be, right? Who was most of our trade with in the 1800s, when Britain was the major economic centre on the world?
