Forum To Dissect Softwood Trade Pact

The political and economic impacts on industry in both countries will be contrasted. IMPACT ON BUSINESS A second panel of prominent industry players will scrutinize the agreement and its impact on the forestry business. Panel members include: Hank Ketcham, president and CEO of West Fraser Timber; Trevor Wakelin of Millar Western; Ken Higginbotham, vice-president with Canfor Corp.; and Paul Perkins of Weyerhaeuser. Helmut Mach, newly minted director of the Western Centre for Economic Research at the U of A, said efforts to put the forum together began the day the softwood agreement was signed between the two countries last October. Mach, former chief negotiator with the Alberta government on the lumber file, said the proceedings should be lively and informative.
