More Corporate Blackmail, This Time From Bombardier

Posted on Thursday, February 19 at 17:10 by Perturbed
Apparently, a corporation that literally has OVER 40 (!!!) plants worldwide can't "Afford" the paltry 2-billion dollar development fee involved in the plan. Never mind the airline industry is struggling. Never mind that they'll easily sell several billion dollars worth of the new planes and, "Miraculously," make lots of money. Never mind that Toronto, Canada's biggest city, has been a loyal Bombardier customer for years, despite numerous job cuts at the Downsview facility.

Remind anyone of how the British-owned Avro corporation held Difenbaker for ransom? It's a no-win situation. You give in, you lose jobs. You don't you lose jobs. Makes you wonder how great Canada could be if it could nationalize all of its essential seriveces, and pass any profits from non-essential government-owned corporations (like Ontario's LCBO) to the taxpayers.........Personally, I consider public transportation essential.

Bombardier may look abroad for financial support
BY ALLAN SWIFT
CANADIAN PRESS

MONTREAL — A new aircraft under study by Bombardier could be assembled abroad unless the Canadian government provides more financial support, its chief executive said today. Paul Tellier said in an interview with The Canadian Press the aircraft that would seat at least 100 passengers could very well be assembled at a Bombardier plant in Northern Ireland because the United Kingdom has just adopted a new policy supporting its aerospace industry.

"We have a first-class facility with an excellent labour force in Belfast," said Tellier, adding that no decision has been made.

"There is in the U.K. a strong export financing agency, so therefore all these factors come into account."

There is frequent political opposition to support for the Canadian aerospace industry and for export financing provided through the federal Export Development Corp. to Bombardier aircraft customers.

OK, my position on this is now going to be, we give you money, you give us shares in the company. If we had been doing this from the start we would own Bombardier by now and it would be a TRULY Canadian owned company.

GREAT idea 4Canada! I\'ve always wanted companies that rake in the billions like Bombardier to be publicly-owened, especially if subsidized by taxpayers. This would ensure secure employment for people, allowing the companies to operate at a lost in a bad year, if necessary, and would prevent the company from trying to cheat on taxes owed to the government, as it IS the government.

I always wondered how to make this fly in the public, so as not to scare off those afriad of the \"Commies,\" while balancing it out with those who would favour it 100%. You\'ve given me an idea that would work for both sides, like it or lump it Tom D\'Aquino.

Yes 4Canada, that is a great idea, actually everytime we give a company a hand out, we should be getting back shares, so that we profit in the success, and we eventually own or at least control some of it!!!! When are you running for gov?

This situation makes me want to throw up ! Since when does a Canadian company dictate to the government ?

Since corporations were given the right to do so, by our very own politicians, long ago.

I have a document that I will try to reduce in size to post on this website, outlining how the corporate entity has gained such control.

One I will speak of now:
Corporations have the status of \"A Person\". Since they have that status, they can do what they want, where they want.

What I don\'t like about this situation is that when a corporation (person) takes over another corporation (person) they can do what they want with the new corporation (person).

This sounds like slavery to me. A person cannot own another person !!

The politicians in the past that drew up this idea didn\'t take slavery into consideration.

That is their weakness, and we can attack on that basis.

It takes a few lawyers and a lot of money, but it can be done.

A group of law students would make a great start in this direction.

We\'ll talk about this more later on.

Yeah, great idea, 4Canada! And unfortunately, Jim, corporations have been dictating to governments for decades now.

You know what Perturbed? I think even the \"Commies\" had some good ideas.

    Anonymous,

I have a pretty thin skin, I don\'t know if I could take the abuse without crying. Or worse without using foul language at random. However, when most people were horrified by Trudeau\'s flipping fingers and \"f\" \"u\" comments I understood this reaction and sometimes cheered him on from my livingroom.

But, who would be the best person to give this idea to? Industry minister? PM? Finance Minister? I\'ll email or fax a letter.

I\'d say start with your MP, and copy it to all the other parties, I always do so, they can\'t say they didn\'t receive it...Joe Clark, always responds to my emails, always, and with more than just rhetoric...too bad he got sidelined by his own and others!

I agree, the commies did have some good ideas. Not that I`d want to see canada go full fledged communist, but the communist system, in theory, was a good one, but unfortunately, the leaders became fascist dictators. KINDA LIKE OUR DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM!!!

I like communism. Just not the abuse of it.

    Thanks Flat Cath,

I wonder if my MP has my address showing up as SPAM and anything I send is flushed into SPAMhole. I\'ve sent some pretty scathing emails to her.

I do the email thing to, it\'s so gratifying to say send, but I have heard that Canada Post letters are worth more, they have more value at the other end, for some reason, guess they figure you have to take more time to send it and that you really mean it! Also it\'s no charge to mail to the House of Commons so maybe if we really want to make an impact we should start a Canada Post campaign, the letter carriers might start to wonder when bags of mail start arriving at the House, also it might make the news. The emails are easily hidden, or even deleted...just another thought..
