“I am proud of the Government of Canada’s partnership with Huron University College for this project that will ultimately make a difference in the lives of Tanzanians,” said Mr. Preston. “People of Ontario and all Canadians should be proud of the difference our academic experts are making in the world by sharing their knowledge and skills.” “We look forward to working with the University of Dar es Salaam on this very important development project,” said Dr. Arja Vainio-Mattila, Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Tanzania Project Director. “The funding will allow us to sharing Huron University’s College’s expertise in community participation in developing ways to reduce poverty.” With this funding, the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania will be able to provide knowledge on poverty issues and good governance to the people of Tanzania. This will be done through the development of curricula, programming and resource development to train students, staff and organizations on how to involve their communities in poverty reduction. The Government of Canada is funding this project through the Canadian International Development Agency under the University Partnerships in Cooperation and Development Program (UPCD), administered by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release.do?id=795871

Education is key to improving quality of life everywhere! But I don`t see various levels of government in Canada making education affordable here at home. Instead we see skyrocketing tuition rates, making education for more and more Canadians out of reach! This work in Tanzania could be a good thing if it has substance, but I`m afraid due to the hypocrisy of elitists right here, that this is more window dressing.
