They Are Making A Killing!

Posted on Saturday, May 28 at 19:40 by Anonymous
Community activists and organizers from Ottawa have come together to form Catapult! This collective is organized under the People’s Global Action (PGA) hallmarks. Together with other groups who have accepted the PGA hallmarks, including June 30th in Toronto and Block the Empire in Montreal, we plan to extend a broad-based education and action campaign that exposes Canadian involvement in war, (neo)colonialism, displacement, racism, privatization, the reconfiguration of civil liberties and other forms of domination. We will map the links between government and corporate actions and the devastation of communities and the environment. For these and countless other reasons we have chosen to “Take Down SNC-Lavalin” - one of Canada’s largest arms manufacturer and a provider of ammunition to the American occupation in Iraq. SNC’s slogan of “health, safety, the environment” covers-up the harm they do to all three in the name of profit. From oil, dams, and mining projects in Cree and Innu territority in Quebec - including a contested aluminum mine in Voisey’s Bay and a hydro-electric project that flooded vast tracts of Cree territory - to biotech and building nuclear reactors in China and South Korea, SNC-Lavalin is one of the engines that feeds indigenous peoples, workers, and all aspects of the environment into the Capitalist machine. In addition to disrupting the operation of those who benefit from and perpetuate the existing system, we are also working to build links between diverse activist organizations and create an effective network to educate and mobilize our communities. We call on all groups working for Justice to support and join our campaign against this war-profiteer. Among the actions you can pursue to support this campaign: • research and disseminate information about SNC and other war-profiteers, as it relates to your issues of interest, • make a map of locations where war-profiteers, corporate criminals, political elites, and police and military institutions converge in your community - see www.fortressnorthamerica.net, • form an affinity group and do an autonomous actions to shut-down SNC’s day-to-day exploitation, • join groups actively participating in this campaign, CATAPULT!, June 30th, Block the Empire. Yes, we too, are guilty of corporate fascist imperialism! Cetrtainly most Canadians oppose the collaberation with the US political-industrial-military complex in the same way Sweden, Switzerland, and Vichy France collaberated with Nazi Germany. History will expose those of us who wish to resist these crimes against humanity!!! Shame on the present day Canadian political- corporate elite!!!

I totally agreed with the commentary, SNC lavelin doesn't care about anyone except the mighty dollar, In northern labrador, living next door to Voisey's Bay, SNC lavelin has pocketed a lot of Innu Leaders, promising the riches and prospertity if they stick with them, that is where a lot of our elected leaders are so corrupt, mainly because of multi-national corporation pulluted them with fictional wealth. In meantime, our young people are poison with gas fumes, while the our Innu leaders promoted the company that is killing our way of life.

The mine in Voisey's Bay which an SNC coordinated
group of contractors are building is to exploit a nickel
    not an "aluminum" deposit .

What really bugs me about SNC-Lavalin is how they built a dam in, IIRC, Madagascar, and flooded a rare rainforest, home to endangered species.

Regarding the war profiteering, as you all know SNC-Lavalin is legally-bound to do what is best for their shareholders, so they have no choice in our system once they are awarded such a contract.

I have sympathy for the criticism, but there is going to be a protest in Toronto at SNC-Lavalin's shareholder meeting, and I must say that this is so childish.

If you were them, what would you do? They won a license to print money from the U.S. military, and it would have been filled by another corporation had they turned it down. Time for the pacifists to grow up.

They have to. They are legally bound to. Protesting is not going to change anything.

    "The midget..."

I find myself every time I see this still wondering what the proper non-offensive, non-belittling, non-hatred-filled word/noun for "little person" is. I do not believe it truly is "midget" which has appeared, and continues to appear on this website, with vivelecanada.ca staff member's blessings. This is all throughout vivelecanada.ca . Someday it *could* become a *real* enlightened, progressive website as opposed to an archaic, vindictive, repressive one as is constantly observed by all who visit to be the case currently. Maybe "perturbed" should become somewhat less "perturbed", and vivelecanada.ca should not promote/endorse this kind of negative stereotyping of people who may be different from mainstream vivelecanada.ca members in some fashion. Please consider this. Thank you vivelecanada.ca for your consideration in this matter in advance...if you do consider it at all.

It was considered, and rejected. Thank you for your thoughts. Perterbed is able to freely express his opinions by quoting the Iraqi Information minister if he wants. Just as you are free to express your opinions. As is pointed out so often, the comments (and signature) of posters is their responsibility, not Vive's.

One day, I hope your enlightenmnet comes.

The word, without moderation by an adverb, is sort of misapplied when referring to Bush. He's over 6 feet tall.

The problem is, when we label bush with anything, the rest of the folks within the label get pissed. When someone called Bush an idiot, lawyers for the Idiots of America sent a protest letter stating, in part, "We may be stupid, but we can watch tv and eat pretzels at the same time."
