    Maybe, when Mars grazes Earth again (a la Velikovsky), it will render the question moot.<br />

    Far more likely will be a new ice age triggered by a comet tail shield, or a major asteroid impact. <br />

    Our own moon has escape velocity and will one day go flinging off into space, and one of the other planets (either Neptune or Uranus) has a moon that is in a degrading orbit, that will one day smuck the planet.<br />
