Canada's Reputation As A Dull Place

Statistics from the Canadian Tourism Commission indicate Canada as a whole saw 4.6 per cent fewer U.S. travellers last year compared with 2004. Automobile traffic was down 6.7 per cent, the commission said. The decline was acutely felt in Ontario, a province visited by roughly 33 per cent fewer U.S. citizens over the last five years, Seiling said. The city of Toronto bore the brunt of that impact, he added. http://canadaeast.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060201/CPN/26338019

The US media is to blame for this misconception. There is an absolute ignorance about Canada in the US; the people generally think that "everything in Canada must be almost similar to what we have here" and they cannot imagine that there may be better ways. That's why they are not eager to find out.

I am trying to educate people on a daily basis. People that have visited Canada think differently. Particularly, among older people, this lack of insight does not exist at all. It may also be the result of their education system.

Perhaps part of the reason for the reduction in visits has a simpler explanation, viz the loonie’s appreciation vs. the greenback?

---
Shatter your ideals upon the rock of Truth.
