Posted on Thursday, January 10 at 12:09 by N Say
"The Government of Canada is looking after the men and women who volunteer to serve the national interest as members of the Canadian Reserve Force," said Minister Blackburn. "We are committed to doing everything possible to ensure that reservists are well supported when they return to civilian working life. They deserve it." http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release.do?id=808986

The strategy will include legislative changes which will protect the civilian jobs of reservists who work for employers in federally-regulated sectors and the public service.
Have you ever bothered to see where the bulk of Canada's recruits originate? Sure as shootin' ain't the "federally-regulated sectors and the public service"! Yes -- Harper certainly does it again! What a bizarre, if not shamless PR announcment this this.
First, does this imply that government workers would be threatened with dismissal if they requested a leave of absence to do service in the CF? This just sounds ridiculous to me for some reason...
Second, this will not make a difference to at least 97% of reservists. Really, any attempt to do so for the rest of us would be uninforceable. This could not ban any company from lay-offs as long as it could come up with any other possible/non-related reason for doing so, personally, I wouldn't want to return to work at such a place if this was the case.
