Government To Give BC, Alberta & Ontario More Seats

Posted on Thursday, November 15 at 09:22 by N Say
The Constitution Act, 2007 (Democratic Representation) changes the formula for allocating seats in the House of Commons. Under the new Bill, after the next census, Ontario will receive an additional 10 seats in the House of Commons (instead of 4), British Columbia will receive an additional 7 seats (instead of 2) and Alberta will receive an additional 5 seats (instead of 1). These figures are based on current population projections. “Canadians across the country deserve to have fairness in representation,” continued Minister Van Loan. “Our legislation will go a long way toward ensuring that each province is represented fairly in the House of Commons.” For more information visit www.democraticreform.gc.ca http://www.democraticreform.gc.ca/eng/media.asp?id=1396 [Proofreader’s note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on November 15, 2007]

Brilliant! It is about time and get this a government keeping their promise. Harper has been working on this issue for quite some time now and is keeping his word from hmmmm I think it was about 4 years ago that he said he would attempt this.

According to todays Globe, Ontario would have needed an extra 20 seats not 10, for a correct proportional representation. Alberta and BC now have a correct representation. The west wins another one!.
