EnCana Corp. threatened to cut $1 billion from its 2008 investments if the panel's recommendations are adopted. The company said it would cut 30 to 40 per cent of the $2.5 billion to $3 billion it plans to spend next year on Alberta-based activity.

[So even if the government's take was increased 20% EnCana wouldn't leave Alberta. Like I said, multinationals won't like the changes but will live with them and adjust. EnCana is still planning to invest $1.5-2 billion in Alberta. It would be interesting to see how much the government could increase the rate (but not actually go through with it) before the oil industry becomes unviable, and see how close the proposed plan is to it. -- NSay] [Proofreader’s note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 2, 2007]

    Somewhere in my web wanderings I discovered this fact also and I believe there was a tie-in with the ideology associated with the New Zealand Experiment, Thatcherism /Reaganism and all that jazz.<br />

    So here it is a decade or three later and all that revenue missed someone ‘notices’ but in the meantime cut backs in health , education and social services went on in the same time frame<br />
