US, Israel Push World To Brink Of World War

Posted on Sunday, July 16 at 12:17 by Diogenes
The entire world knows that only the US can stop it. The Bush administration won’t. It has only not even bothered to script words that sound like diplomacy, it has purposely congratulated Israel, which has spectacularly executed the shared 9/11-created policy of presumptive unilateral war against “terrorists” (all political opponents are “terrorists”). Bush neocon maniacs like what its demented cousins in Tel Aviv have unleashed -- and want more. This comes in the wake of 1) the insane Donald Rumsfeld re-declaring war in the Middle East, reiterating that the US “is not going anywhere”; 2) a terror bombing in Mumbai (Bombay), India that can be traced to US-linked Pakistani terror groups, sparking possible India-Pakistan nuclear conflict; 3) new rounds of provocation towards Iran, and 4) North Korea. http://www.lookingglassnews.org/printerfriendly.php?storyid=6670 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on July 17, 2006]

We are heading for a war or wars. Does it really matter where it starts or who starts it.........?

I honestly doubt there will be a world war, or any war, for that matter over this.

Anyone familiar with the current situation, who is old enough, will recall seeing the whole song and dance routine before back in the 1970's and the 1980's.

There are three sides to every story, Israels' side, the Arab's side, and somewhere obscured by bullsh*t, propaganda, and rhetoric, is the Truth.

    Deacon;

You doubt there will be any war over this?. What do you call one nation bombing the capital city of a neighbouring nation?. Have we finally reached 1984 where "War is Peace - Peace is war"?.

Well I wonder if our minority Bush groveling Conservative government of Harper's still thinks Israel's response has been "measured" now that they snuffed out nearly an entire Canadian family. Their crime - they went on vacation.

Yes we have seen this before. Israel is attacked for their policies in the occupied territories, they respond with maximum force. In turn they are attacked for responding, so they once again respond. It never ends, but one thing stays rather constant - civilians in the middle die on mass.

Where is our government? Playing sides whilst playing politics with the sinking empire. Where is a real statesman when they are needed most? Bring back Chretien - anyone is better than knee-pad Harper.

Another diatribe from someone who has obviously never been in Lebanon or lived their life.
The Lebanese people have no use for the Hizbullah terrorists trained by Iran and supported by Syria.
The only goal for Iran through their Hizbullah proxies is the destruction of Israel. There is no peaceful solution for Hizbullah and Iran unless Israel ceases to exist.
I shudder at CUPE Ontario supporting Muslim fanatics. I wish I could equal my CUPE membership payments to provide for support of Hizbullah victims to those fanatics that CUPE supports in the Occupied areas.
I shudder at Canada's National NDP'S support for Hizbullah.
I regret it took so long for the Federal Liberals to finally acknowledge that maybe Hizbullah actually might be a terrorist organization rather than a strictly benevolent charity.
Hizbullah started this war. No ifs and or buts.
Hizbullah cares not one whit about Lebanon. It is just a convenient platform to carry out their Iran mandated plans.
The next phase of this war will be in the Bekka Valley where the majority of the hard core Hizbullah fighters and their Iranian support (advisors) and heavy equipment is situated. It has not happened yet because it will bring Syria into the war, and Iran, which is what Iran wants.
The lack of knowledge of world affairs by our peaceniks is the most dangerous because they are used by fanatics to support their cause.

Harper announces "Israel has a right to defend itself" and if this logic holds then now that Israel has killed 8 Canadians Harper surely will have to bomb Israel in defence of Canada? One would expect so having Harper as a leader considering too that he also used the lame argument that 29 Canadian were killed on 9/11 so that was justification for turning a peacekeeping mission into a murdering spree.

And I thought the Liberals were dangerous to Canada. Goes to show that things CAN ALWAYS GET WORSE THAN THEY CURRENTLY ARE!

Wow this right-winger has all his talking points in order.

Classic smear tactics, but please, take this garbage to a place like Freedominion where I am sure they will all circle around and e-jerk with you.

Educated people the world over, and nations around the world see the current situation for what it is - a gross over-reaction and collective punishment in full violation of international law and what should be simple morality. But morality and law don't seem to fit into the vocabulary of the right-wing anymore.

    Actually I do, Frank.

It's the same old tired song and dance that it's been for decades, if not longer.

Back in the 1970's and 1980's Beiruit was bombed all the time.

Dasmascus had air strikes done on it as well.

It's just another go around in the world's deadliest case of sibling rivalry.

If they have all that cash, then they have enough money to build desalinization plants alone the seacoasts of their countries, and if they have any sense, they'll ration production so that everyone will have enough.

Any group of people who has "leaders" wealthy enough to build palaces 1/4 mile plus wide has no excuse when it comes to costs.

    Right wing?
My grandfather died in Canada on a lonely road defending what he felt were Canadian values against his fellow immigrants who wanted to establish their own values. He wanted to be a Canadian. He was killed for those beliefs.
I am a member of one of a highly rated Peace organization for over 30 years.
I joined CUPE in the 1980's.
I was on the CUPE executive for years.
I worked with Palestinian refugees in Beirut.
I saw first hand the ravages of war.
I know of what I speak, do you??

EVERYONE uses everyone else to get what they want. It's the way of the world. Hezbollah provides support services for the population of southern Lebanon, and has strong support there, just as the drug lords of Columbia provided schools and hospitals for the people of that country. Now you have to ask, why is this? Where are the governments of these countries, whose job it is to do this, and why aren't they doing it? Corruption, graft, and incompetence maybe? The people in Gaza elected Hamas because the government there was all of this, and the people got sick and tired of it. Now why did Israel and the United States back a government in Gaza that did not serve the needs of the people? Had each or both of them done that, this whole thing would not have reached critical mass.

But the US has a history of backing corrupt regimes. As to why, well anyone can speculate but in the end of it, it is good for business back home. There is precious little charity in this world.

I find it hard to have any sympathy for any of the players, except the apolitical civillians. There is so much blood on everyone's hands down there, that the western ideas of "good guys" and "bad guys" that are so popular have lost all meaning to me.

The conflict has to end now, and every country not actively endorsing that option has my open contempt.

So some countries think that the only proactive way to end this dispute is use of force with a clear loser and clear winner. Who knows, they might even be right. God help us all.
