In Flanders Fields

We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders Fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. - John McCrae, 1915

It was really impressive to see the numbers of people, young and not so young, who braved the cold to remember our fallen soldiers. Perhaps we are learning? I have been told that it is a privilege to feel the cold!

It is these warrior soldiers that give us the privilege to feel anything!!!

This whole business of \"Lest we forget\" is an abomination unto Peaceful people. I say let\'s forget about War and all that it entails. Remembrance Day is just a ruse to trick and exploit the young into believing that going off to war and dying for one\'s country is a great and noble deed. Pashah!

The young are still dying in Iraq and elsewhere while the fat bastards in their business suits and military garb are building more and more lethal weapons for killing and suffering.

What the hell did all those young men and women who had their bodies blown to smithereens in the 1st and 2nd WWars accomplish by their senseless following of the herd mentality? Nothing! Zilch!Just more profits for the Military Industrial Complex and the global elite who exploit and manipulate and brainwash the young to die for their greedy agendas.

I say we bury Remembrance Day once and for all and get on with ending War and start living in Peace. Everything else is a LIE.

Well, yeah, I agree that so many things in this world are a big lie, meant to trick the masses into following whatever, so that the fat cat corporate fascists can rape us more. Yes, Iraq is a big oil grab. Vietnam was bogus. But let`s look at World War 2. I`m glad we had brave Canadian soldiers go and stop a maniac like Hitler! The guy was evil! He had to be stopped! I`m not glorifying war here, I`m only trying to recognize the sacrifice and bravery these soldiers made, because even though things today aren`t quite what they should be, I`m glad Nazi Germany doesn`t rule today!!! Not to mention, for some reason, the HUGE Canadian contribution to World War 2 always gets downplayed by right wing sellouts who falsely accuse Canada of not doing enough to perpetuate freedom and democracy. Quite frankly, in World War 2, CANADA GOT THE JOB DONE!!! Again I`m not glorifying war, I`m emphasizing what Canadians can do when we put our minds to it!!!

I agree with Dave on this, and I could never sleep at night if I pledged to forget Remembrance Day! The very idea of forgetting that people shed their blood to stop the tyrants and people who inflicted so much pain and torture makes me sick. It is in the remembering that we do not glorify war, we respect the life that was lost, we pay homage to the warior but we do not glorify war. I think that every year as we see people gather to remember, we are also seeing people stand firmly for peace. The more we know about the truth of war, the horrors and the greed behind war, the more we are able to stand for peace. Hitler is one example of a government gone wrong, a people so apathetic that they couldn\'t hear the undertones, the hidden messages. Today we are more educated yet, look at what the U.S. is pledging to spread across the world, it is no different that the pledge of Nazi-ism, the pledge to spread their ideology across the planet. I do not see any good coming from forgetting the loss or sacrifice, I do see the need to educate people as to the cost of war. The corporations behind wars, take advantage of complacency and ignorance. The better people know people, of every race, creed and colour the more we will be unwilling to back governments that wish to wage war. The great example is the war in Iraq, the majority of Canadians and for that matter the U.N. did not support a war in Iraq. We were not so blind as the Germans when Hitler was invading and liberating Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland etc. Yet we were not strong enough to stand together against, the U.S. war machine and that is wrong! We remember so we do not repeat, do not repeat the mistakes of complacency and follow like sheep to the slaughter. We are prepared to defend what is good, what is our right, freedom and we are prepared to defend other nations who are in dire situations, but first we must always attempt to understand the other side and pursue peaceful means to gain justice for all. Most times a nation that is capable of defending itself will never have to exert force. Leaders who are in a position of power must consider peaceful means to sort out differences, but as with Hitler and Bush, there was no threat to security, no threat to the people of their homelands, the threat was to their own ideology, their own power and greed. So force is needed to stop monsters when they rise, but if you give the monster all of the power, who will stop them, who can stand against someone that has been given authority and a mandate from the masses? We the people of the world must speak out against atrocities, against the greed that drives wars and steals the youth of the world. We must demand truth from our governments and elect politicians that are honorable people. If we keep laughing at and saying oh, what do you expect from politicians, we will keep having governments that are not accountable to the people, and they will continue to follow the path they alone set. They will follow the money path, which is of course in drugs, arms, controlling the masses etc. Until we start demanding more, we will keep paying more, in lives, lost incomes, lost countries! I don\'t think remembrance day celebrates war or glorifies it, the media does a good job of that 364 days a year, this one day is the most humbling of days, and hopefully as the sacrifices becomes more personal more people will understand and say NO to War and Yes to any means to achieve PEACE!! We will start to demand more from our governments, we will expect them to reflect our peaceful hopes and dreams, but they will not unless we demand it of them!

Just one question... if those who died to stop the evil tyrant Hitler were heroes, what does that make all of us who have yet to raise a finger against the evil tyrant Bush?
