Rice To Try Calming The Softwood Furor On Trip To Canada: U.S. Officials

Posted on Monday, October 24 at 10:22 by jensonj
State Department officials insist no offence has been taken south of the border. "The prime minister made Canada's position very clear and that's helpful," said a senior department official. "The ability to speak clearly is an important part of the relationship." Rice cancelled a visit to Ottawa in April after Canada decided not to join the U.S. missile defence plan. Her visit now is designed to soothe anxieties while putting a positive spin on efforts to deepen Canada-U.S. relations. That will be difficult since Canada has adopted the position that solving softwood is integral to moving forward in other areas, and the unresolved dispute is threatening future economic relations. The trip is not about "damage control," said the American official, who didn't want to be named. "The fact that she's going is important and it's positive. This is about reminding everyone about how important the relationship is. Our level of co-operation is profound," said the official, who noted there's been progress on the cattle trade and the Devils Lake water outlet opposed by Canada. http://www.cbc.ca/cp/business/051021/b102176.html [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 25, 2005]

This amount is now OVERDUE and should carry INTEREST.

Rice isn't coming to Canada about softwood.

The US is working their way towards creating anothern western ally out of Syria. Rice wants support from Canada before the US steps before NATO and announces this country has WMD. Rice has been selected to feel out the prospects. The US determined it's better to find friends BEFORE the attack rather then after, like in Iraq. Perhaps she can convince Canada to man a missile defence this time.

According to the U.S. media the un-told reason for her Canadian visit is that Canada has decided to sell oil to China.

All U.S. Administrations have quietly and un-officially considered Canada's oil reserves as America's private emergency reserve stock.

The White House leaks indicate that she is here to remind Canada's P.M. his responsibilities to the United States in very blunt terms.

That demon-spawn, pit-bull faced bitched should stay the fuck home. We don't want to be dragged into ANOTHER war, and we can bloody well sell our own oil to whom ever we want.

Funny. I suspect we won't be hearing Ed Deak condemning *this* "cowardly anon".

Actually, I think her obvious reason for visiting was to tell gutless Martin that America owns Canada.

If Canada wants to deny that, then all of NAFTA is off.

    Nothing "unoffical" about it.

    Put up or shut up.

Otherwise, count on getting fucked up.

Rice is nice but gold is old. Oil is what it's all about. Rice is a token and acts like she's being heard. The mouth that roared and I wonder if Martin is listening. We haven't heard from Bush yet and obviously Rice is his mouth piece. Why did Martin even bother.

Canada can't sell oil to China now or in the near future. We have no pipeline. Even if we could the tanker charges would not be cost effect. The oil we theoretically would sell to China would then be made up from other sources. America wouldn't even notice the difference. Our silly little government is only playing to the nationalists before an election. Besides, it is not the fed oil it is the people of Alberta that own it. Most of the oil and gas industry is owned by Americans and Brits. The government of Alberta and the owners would never tolerate the federal position. Me thinks it sounds to most Canadians and certainly Albertans that floating this crazy scheme has the stench of Pierre Trudeau and the Canadian Government about it.
The State Department in Washington is well aware of this and will shrug if off as the kids up north acting up again.

There are oil tankers transfering oil by the dozens from country to country. You may recall a couple of them cracked up around Alaska. There is the Trans-Mountain pipline from Alberta and another planned to Kitimat or Prince Rupert, BC. The people of Alberta do not own it. "The people" of Alberta would be wealthy if they did..
