Harper's A Hit In London

Posted on Sunday, July 16 at 09:44 by 4Canada
"She complimented the Prime Minister on his government," said a Harper aide. Those around the Prime Minister felt it was an honour for Thatcher to have dropped in on Canada's new leader. Harper also won praise from Blair for Canada's military role alongside British troops in Afghanistan. "We both know, I think, the importance of making sure that that country does not fall back into the hands of the Taliban and the extremists who used it as a training ground for terrorism and exporting terrorism right around the world," Blair said during a joint press conference. Harper, who is to meet one-on-one with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg today, took an apparent veiled swipe at Russia's increasing state intervention in its burgeoning petroleum industry. "We believe in the free exchange of energy products based on competitive market principles, not self-serving monopolistic political strategies," Harper said during his speech to the Canada-United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1152913812157&call_pageid=968332188492

Bush put the thumbs down on Russia joining the WTO. Harper is agreeing to sell Russian NG through Canadian outlets. Harper better reconsider who he is to kneel before. He has joined the Bush/Blair league and getting his pats. Canadians be aware! Our future will become the same as theirs.

    From Article:
"Harper also visited Buckingham Palace yesterday, apprising the Queen of what the Conservative government is doing in Ottawa and discussing Canada's role in the Commonwealth.

But television footage of Harper's exchange with the Queen raised a few eyebrows. Discussing his current trip, which winds up with a brief visit to France after the G-8 meeting, Harper observed that the French part of his foreign foray may be the toughest part.

"It's harder at the end of a trip," he told the Queen.

What that was supposed to mean was the subject of much discussion among the media travelling with Harper.

But a spokesperson for the Prime Minister said no one should read anything into the remark, calling it a casual, throwaway line that meant little."

I'd like to think that Canadians should read nothing into Harper, the casual, throwaway PM that means little or nothing to us.
