His comments signalled continued hesitancy among some Liberals about triggering an election campaign in coming weeks, although leader Stephane Dion said his direction to party members remains: "Be ready at any time. 2008 is a new ball game." The Liberals were criticized in the fall for abstaining on the throne speech and on a mini-budget, even though it contained another cut in the GST, which they strongly oppose on grounds it sucks billions out of federal coffers that may be needed to fight a potential recession. Because all three opposition parties - Liberals, Bloc Quebecois and the New Democratic Party - must vote together to defeat the government, an abstention by one party ensures survival of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's minority Conservative government.     Voters, take note. You elect them to do a job; to vote in Parliament on matters of state. To represent the "majority" who elected them.

    They are discussing whether to take the day off, with pay. And bill you for lunch on their expense accounts. Just remember that, next time you are at the polls.

    Perhaps if the government did not make every little thing a "vote of confidence" and alowed MPs to vote on the substance of the issue rather than load it up with "election fever" we could get something done. Time to start voting on the issues not the polotics but thats impossible when the two are lumped together.
