Liberal-Conservative Coalition

Posted on Monday, June 21 at 15:55 by Flick
A Liberal-Conservative coalition, similar to the one that took power in 1917 to face World War I. In order to join Star Wars, keep spending low, fight deficits, allow free votes on abortion, strengthen child-porn laws, send troops to Iraq (under U.N. command and in cooperation with a possible John Kerry America), expand the powers of NORAD, expand the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas, keep Lockheed-Martin involved in the Census, etc, the Conservatives and Liberals will have to work together. Even public-private partnerships in Health Care could be worked out to satisfy both Martin and Harper. With over 200 seats between them, the two parties could rule comfortably and even divvy up ministries, perhaps returning Paul Martin to the Finance portfolio, keeping Stockwell Day in Foreign Affairs, and enjoy a stable, long-term government. Compromises on the Gun Registry, bilingualism, and other tense issues could create bland, safe programs that mollify the harsh Conservative-Alliance membership without destabilizing the Bay Street / Civil-Service partnership which has kept the Liberals in power for 10 years. The Alliance has greatly increased in popularity after swallowing the Conservatives, and the Liberals have shed their progressive wing after the battles between Chretien and Martin supporters. The two parties may have no choice but to align themselves against the instability and wild demands predictable in any issue-to-issue negotiations with the other two parties. Just kidding. The only reason they'd never join together, of course, is that it would reveal the whole ideological battle for the farce that it is. They'll never join together for the same reason Coke and Pepsi would never join together. It's too bad. It would make things simpler for all of us.

Don't do that too me, Flick. I spent all day locked in a half-dark room with strobe-lights going off and children screaming. I come home and read that. I thought they'd finaly made it official and was about to dive for they radio when I saw the punch-line.

Locked in a dark room with strobe lights and screaming children? You
weren't doing something that Harper would use the Notwithstanding
    Clause against, were you?

Naw...it's just crass commercialism. It likely should be illegal, but it isn't. We're shooting Halloween costumes. I'm mostly in charge of duct tape and keeping stage mothers out of the shot. In my spare time, I drink. :p

It's just another sign that capitalist system is not working and they have to join forces to stay in power;and for those of you that are old enough to see what has went on in the past and not just the present; you will find that they have been in power ever since confederation and over the years have been sharing the power in our country as they are both right wing governments who have been fooling the public with their capitalistic bullshit for many years and unfortunatly people have kept voteing them back in so they can destroy our country bit by bit; and why because of peoples ignorence and the old thought that the CCF now the NDP are a communist party "how ignorent can they be" the CCF/NDP where the one's who started all of our social progams;such as unemployment insurance, family allowance, universal health care, and a host of other things like a 40 hr workweek; woman's right to vote etc. And i say wake up and smell the rose's and look how the right wing parties are tearing it all down;right before our eye's along with scandals in there government on a steady basis while lineing their and their rich friend's pockets with our money;while the rest of us suffer for their actions;like other people do who live in corupt countries; but it is to late for them as they are allready under control of of the rich and cannot gain back what they lost;and so it will be here to if we do not stop them now before it's to late;and have a government for the people by the people"which is called a Socialist Government" not a communist goverment and get rid of the capitalist pig's before it's to late. And that is why they are forming a capitalist coalition, and now as citizens of Canada we must elect a socialist Goverment "NDP";before the rich and powerful take us back to the dark ages.

What is wrong with abolition of the party system. Each province and territory elects a predetermined number of independents. These independents in each province select one minister from among their ranks. These ministers select a prime minister. They can only serve two 4 year terms. Maybe then we might find a government that would represent their constituents? Haven't seen one yet in 60 odd years.
