U.S. Pulled Into Fray

Posted on Sunday, December 11 at 12:58 by jensonj
Canadian diplomats played down the seemingly new rift in Canada-U.S relations by insisting that ambassador Frank McKenna was not called in to hear complaints about the Prime Minister's remarks. "We had asked for the meeting," said Bernard Eztinger, a spokesman for Mr. McKenna. But a State Department official told reporters in Washington that James Connaughton from the White House Counsel for Environmental Quality "made very clear his unhappiness over Mr. Martin's comments and particularly singling out the United States" during the meeting with Mr. McKenna. The admonition came at the request of Vice-President Dick Cheney, according to reports. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.html?id=285077bd-c625-4dbb-ad62-9dbe4b16c70f&k=33566

US policies, you think they could defend them.

They don't have a problem expecting the rest of the world to put up with their mouth during their elections.

They didn't hesitate to trash Canada during their election.

hmmmm...Let's see now...Canada's greenhouse gas emissions (as a "Kyoto Accordian" member) ROSE (over 24%) over the same period of time since joining the "Kyoto Accordian" while AMERICA's emissions went down...hmmm...and just since BUSH came into office it's gone DOWN EVEN MORE. Get the facts straight at least, oh, "enlightened" "progressive" ones...

America is but one of MANY of the developed nations opposing the faulty "science" of the "Kyoto Accordian", and are instead actualy taking steps which REDUCE greenhouse gas emissions instead of INCREASE them as Canada and it's compatriots has done. Get over yourselves already (eh).

Moreso, how about in addition to the negative environmental impact of the INCREASED greenhouse gas emissions of over 24%, we take a look at the mining practices, clear cutting lumber on Crown(and/or the native's)land practices, and disgusting water polluting practices of Canada...or the near anhilation of Pacific Sockeye, Cod, or the ongoing slaughter of baby seals by the millions...many actually skinned alive in front of their very own mothers (imagine watching your own child being skinned alive before your very eyes, and dying a slow agonizing, surreal death at your feet as you are powerless to prevent it at the hands of "enlightened", "progressive" Canadian killers)...there's also the wonderfully close, warm, loving, relationship Canada has with it's number one friend, pal, political idol, human rights idol, and ally, Communist China which does this...
be sure and watch the video's on this environment/animal friendly website showing Canada's BEST friends and buddies at work (eh)...
You make some good points. In future, do it without putting in all the "eh"s; they only make you sound like a jackass.

Apparently if Canada just stopped flaring off natural gas, we would be meeting our Kyoto commitments. So why aren't we doing that? Because the Big Oil companies don't want to pay that much to refit their processes, and the government isn't forcing them to clean up (literally) their act. If we started telling them how to run their business, they might take their business elsewhere!

    ---
Your mantra has been your opinions are stifled due to their contrary nature, when they are actually stifled for being without perceivable foundation.

"...the "eh"s; they only make you sound like a jackass."

My point...(eh)...it's YOUR "progressive", "enlightened" term (eh)... not that of Americans (eh)... :)... simply "stifling" (eh) Jesse? Uh, huh...stifle THIS plastic pants boy...

<<If we started telling them how to run their business, they might take their business elsewhere! >>

And what about the polluting auto-industry or steel mills in Ontario. For them it would be:

"If we stopped giving them subsidies, they might take their business elsewhere."

And isn't cutting down trees bad for the environment? Why do we allow the harvest of softwood lumber at all, esp on crown land in QC? We should start "telling them how to run their business". And when the polluting mill towns get too far from the trees, why do we pay them to stay? Is this saving the planet? That money should be redirected to Kyoto. At least until our northwest passage is nice and frozen to the core. Not a day sooner.

Interesting timing on the release of that study.

Wonder if Mr.Global Conscience had anything to do with that?

Voodoo math. When we look at the TOTAL pollution it is not even close.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.

"They didn't hesitate to trash Canada during their election." You have got to be kidding! Most Americans don't even know that Canada exists. Canada is NEVER mentioned in U.S. elections -- Canada is not important enough. Try to get over yourselves. U.S. exports = bio tech, electronics, medicines, arts/entertainment et al. Canadian exports = logs and Molson --WOW! I'm impressed.

"Most Americans don't even know that Canada exists."

Brag on. Rick Mercer already explored that niche. It was a hoot.
