While we have NAFTA and the FTA with the US it is clear that these mean little to American Imperialism, they make agreements they feel free to break. But in the global marketplace its hard to demand everyone play by your rules, and then keep breaking them. While Canada and the US are forced trading partners by geography, Canada politically has recognized China way before the Nixon visit, just as we recognize Cuba. This puts Canada in play for inter-imperialist investment rivalries as we are seeing in the Alberta Tar Sands.
