Undefended Border & Illegal Crossings

Posted on Wednesday, June 21 at 09:03 by Anonymous
Jolicoeur argued the majority of illegal crossings are simply mistakes made by confused travellers. He noted there are hundreds of unguarded roads between Canada and the U.S., and the costs of turning each crossing into a fortress would outweigh the benefits. "I would suggest to you that (border security) has nothing to do with signage," he said. "If you can't read the signage at (B.C. crossing) Peace portal or Windsor, then you're coming across with something, to do something." The issue of border security is hotter than ever as U.S. politicians on the cusp of congressional elections have re-ignited accusations that Canada's so-called lax immigration and security policies make the country a "terrorist haven." http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=4b1c3da9-dc5a-49ba-88d2-53fcddbae876&k=52055 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on June 22, 2006]

The BC Senator needs to be informed that the name of the border crossing is Peace Arch.

"I think most Canadians would be surprised, shocked and unhappy to learn that 300 vehicles in a half a year drive across the border and aren't stopped and somehow get away with it," Liberal Senator Tommy Banks said<<

    Tommy Banks don't know Canadians.

    I'm shocked. Only 300?

I guess they aren't counting boats, planes, bicycles and pedestrians, etc...

Yeah, we should be real stupid a-holes and spend billions blocking up an imaginary line stretching for 7,000+ km's over both land and water. What the hell for? I don't see any "terrorists" do you? Even if you agree that the 20 odd arrests that have been made over the last 4 years were real terrorists, that's still nothing to worry about.

The best way to make sure that there are no terrorists, is to simply be a good world neighbour. Not much else to it and it costs nothing.

Unfortunatly we are following the neighbour who believes thay can gain by being the opposite. No one is balancing the books overall, to determine the cost of war over the profits of the private sector that make profit on it.

That's why we keep on telling our "neighbour to the south" that Canada wants to be a "good neighbour" using our own definition (as well stated by rearguard) and not by their practice.

Do we have the right to do that, as a sovereign country? Of course. But for doing just that, they call us sissies. And we call them bullies.

    "Good fences make good neighbours".

If anyone can enter Canada by sprinting across a 30 foot clearing, what's to keep terrorists from doing the same thing? By allowing lax security such as this, airport security is pointless except to protect passengers from people with the intention to manicure. As long as someone can fly to the USA, then jump across to Canada, screening passengers on airlines incoming isn't as effective as we've been led to believe. Why do we give our private information to US spy agencies when we are travelling internally, if these terrorists can simply jump our border undetected?

The US Border Patrol should be doing something to keep these illegal terrorists from escapeing the US.

    /end right wing parody.
