How To End The Iraq War

Posted on Tuesday, November 30 at 10:03 by nancymarie
Once the election was over, the Bush administration turned Falluja into a slaughterhouse – even as the Democrats remained silent and thousands of activists seemed frozen in mourning or internal discussions of what went wrong. There is a lesson here for progressives. Since the anti-war sentiment was a factor of public opinion during the presidential race that made Bush defer tough decisions, the movement needs to create an even greater force of opposition that will become indigestible, a kind of gallstone in the stomach of power. If this seems unlikely, one must remember that the war-makers are feverishly trying to manipulate the perceptions of restive Americans. They fear the multitudes. That is why reporters were embedded at the beginning. That is why the toppling of Saddam Hussein's statue on April 9, 2003 was "stage-managed" by the U.S. Army, according to the L.A. Times.

The only way to end the war in Iraq is for coalition forces to refuse to obey orders which hurt people and for soldiers not in Iraq to refuse to go until the US changes it actions to helpful instead of hurtful. To end this war soldiers must put conscience over tendencies to obey commands. We must not look at obedience as in itself a virtue. Obedience to principles must be stressed as we raise our children over obedience to authority.

The American soldiers who refused to take bad fuel to an Iraqi air base through an area where they could have been blown up on their way to deliver bad fuel which probably would have again been labeled unusable if it did reach its destination should be applauded not prosecuted.

The Israeli pilots who have refuse to impose massive collective punishment through bombings on Palestinians for the actions of a few Palestinians which only increases the cycle of violence should be give a peace prize and recognized as heros/sheros.

All life must be respected regardless of birth circumstances.

The Iraqi forces which left the coalition forces to avoid hurting innocent Iraqis should be applauded as heros instead of labeled deserters. Obedience to conscience must be the guiding force in all of our lives.

As soon as you can convince suicide attackers around the world to stop their killing, then I'm with you buddy.

Also, be a sport and convince the Islamic forces in Sudan to stop killing the Animist and Christian 'infidels' too please, that would be real nice since 70,000 are dead already.

And, while you're at it, if you could get the 'Dear Leader' in North Korea to stop threatening people with his nuclear missiles, that would be great. Thanks!

Just as soon as you convince the US to stop meddling in other people's countries there anon.

Suicide bombers stop themselves from further actions with each suicide bombing. The problem is punishment of innocents who had nothing to do with the suicide attacks produces more suicide bombers. Iraq had no problem with suicide attacks before the current US occupation.

If President Bush wasn’t so busy attacking a country which didn’t attack the US and was more concerned about preserving human life instead of dominating he could have sent ground troops to the Sudan to curb genocidal acts instead of killing thousands of Iraqi civilians and leaving radioactive material behind to cause the slow death of Iraqi children bombing survivors from leukemia.

As for North Korea perhaps Bush who espouses Christianity should follow Christ’s advice to remove the log from his own eye before trying to remove the twig from someone else’s eye.
