Canadian Vote Chance To End 'petty Rancour' With Bush Team

Posted on Thursday, December 29 at 09:06 by jensonj
Others echo that theme; that the rancour is less a result of policy differences than of a perception of deliberate delay and duplicity by successive Liberal prime ministers. "More civility, more dignity, . . .. not what's occurred under Chrétien and Martin," said Joseph Jockel, director of Canadian Studies at St. Lawrence University in Rochester, N.Y. In the Bush administration, "there's no goodwill left towards Canada," he said. "The United States can easily accept a 'no' if it is handled differently," he added, noting that deep bitterness lingers in the Bush administration over the manner, not the substance, of the Liberal government's rejection of White House entreaties to participate in the Iraq war and continental missile defence. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20051228/BILATERAL28/TPInternational/Americas

US scholars made these statements, and the Toronto Globe and Mail published the article. How is this (or should this be) perceived by the Canadian electorate?

    1. As improper interference in a Canadian general election by US scholars who obviously do not vote in Canada?
    2. As improper interference in a Canadian general election by the Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper?
    3. As really really really "newsworthy"?
    4. As "hogwash" from "hogtown"?
    5. As valid information, on which a significant number of voters will base their choice on the 23rd of January?

Please take your pick; I guess # 4 is most reasonable.
