Why Did The Trade Center Skyscrapers Collapse?

This is a brief excerpt from a concise analysis. Why Did the Trade Center Skyscrapers Collapse? by Morgan Reynolds The scientific controversy over the initial structural weakening has two parts: what caused the original tower damage and did that damage "severely" weaken the structures? Photos show a stable, motionless North Tower (WTC 1) after the damage suffered at 8:46 am and the South Tower after its 9:03 am impact. If we focus on the North Tower, close examination of photos reveals arguably "minor" rather than "severe" damage in the North Tower and its perimeter columns. As many as 45 exterior columns between floors 94 and 98 on the northeast (impact) side of the North Tower were fractured – separated from each other – yet there is no direct evidence of "severe" structural weakening. None of the upper sections of the broken perimeter columns visibly sags or buckles toward its counterpart column below. We can infer this because of the aluminum covers on the columns: each seam uniformly aligns properly across the Tower, forming a horizontal "dashed line" in the façade from beveled end to end. Despite an impact hole, gaps in perimeter columns, and missing parts of floors 95–98 at the opening, the aluminum façade shows no evidence of vertical displacement in the columns, suggestive of little or no wider floor buckling at the perimeter. The aluminum covers attached to the columns also aligned vertically after impact, that is, separated columns continued to visually remain "plumb" (true vertical), lining up top to bottom around the aperture, implying no perceptible horizontal displacement of the columns. Photographic evidence for the northeast side of the North Tower showed no wider secondary structural impact beyond the opening itself. Of course, there was smoke pouring out of the upper floors. The fact that perimeter columns were not displaced suggests that the floors did not buckle or sag. Despite missing parts of floors 95–98, photos show no buckling or sag on other floors. If so, that boosts the likelihood that there was little damage to the core. Photos do not document what happened within the interior/core and no one was allowed to inspect and preserve relevant rubble before government authorities – primarily FEMA – had it quickly removed. Eyewitness testimony by those who escaped from inside the North Tower concerning core damage probably is unavailable. Photos do not allow us to peer far into the interior of the building; in fact the hole is black, with no flames visible. We know that the structural core and its steel was incredibly strong (claimed 600% redundancy) making it unlikely that the core was "severely" damaged at impact. There were 47 core columns connected to each other by steel beams within an overall rectangular core floor area of approximately 87 feet x 137 feet (26.5 m x 41.8 m). Each column had a rectangular cross section of approximately 36" x 14" at the base (90 cm x 36 cm) with steel 4" thick all around (100 mm), tapering to ¼" (6 mm) thickness at the top. Each floor was also extremely strong (p. 26), a grid of steel, contrary to claims of a lightweight "truss" system. The WTC collapsed because of the fire. Kerosene doesn't burn hot enough you say? Well this was a special type of fire. A VERY special type of fire, in fact - a Reichstag fire!

Airliners full of fuel flew into the World Trade Center towers weakening the structures and causing massive fires - this made them collapse.

Where have these people been that they haven't heard about this? It was on TV, radio, the internet and in newspapers - they should check these sources some time...

    LOL.

Yeah just don't ask any structual engineers, or look at the fact that MANY other skyscrpaers have had fires raging for days and still did not fall down. The WTC was designed to stand up to an attack of that nature. Just research what happened to WTC building 7. IT was not even hit by any debris. Yet it somehow caught fire and then collapsed at around 4 pm that day. Larry Silverstien the lease holder is quoted (and you can find the clip on any 9'11 doc) as saying that they decided to "pull building 7" which is the demolition term for bringing down a building. If a skyscraper was to collapse as the result of a plane impact, it would have fallen sideways no? Why did it fall right into the footprints of the building? Any analysis of the collapse shows at least 10 clear signs of controlled demolition. There are so many holes in the offical story, you could fly an airliner though it...

Sorry Nsay, I didn't see your post in the forum, I looked but I can't find your post, and this article is by Reynolds (except for the first paragraph). You should have submitted it for the front page because his view of the evidence is different than other analysists and 911 has been used as an excuse for almost everything that the US administration and other governments (including our own) agression this century. Here is a link to some excellant photos of 911, clicking on the photos will enlarge them.

LOL Some folks appreciate mediocre economists turned part-time conspiracy theory engineer LOONS more than others I suppose? He said it and we like it so it must be true. Damn the facts and common sense, full speed ahead LOON lovers! Come on boys, let's go over the top with this one!

How about, they collapsed because the Bush administration needed a big boost in the polls...............?

people try to say the same thing about Chomsky, that he's not qualified to have an opinion on these sorts of things. it doesn't change the fact the Chomsky is probably one of the best-informed people on the planet when it comes to politics. same with this guy i think.

Too much technical stuff for me. However...

My understanding of why fire(s) were able to bring down the WTC and not other skyscrapers that catch on fire is because the explosions the planes created "blew away" the fire retardent material protecting the steel beams. This being the case, the steel would have been exposed long enough, and to high enough temperatures, to be weakened just enough to collapes under the weight of the jets.

This doesn't explain how the towers fell so perfectly...

To substantiate this "conspiracy theory" though would require some deeper digging. Such as, how would they get the nessecary explosives into the WTC without anyone suspecting anything, and how they were detonated.

Until these are answered, I'm willing to give the government the benefit of the doubt. Because I find it hard to belive that even Bush would be so... I don't even know a word harsh enough, to kill his own people and the greatest symbol of his vaunted America.

Good little Sheeple accept the official story and resist asking questions. All inconsistencies can be referred back to the official story for state sponsored nullification. Nothing to see here, sheeple, move on.

Yeah, I'm with you to a point, cause this sort of calculated evil is hard to hack, it is easier to believe it doesn't exist. Let's not forget, they lied to get into Iraq, and people have laid down their lives for that lie, including US soldiers. That's their own people dying for a lie. That's evil enough. Why should US soldiers die when the there wasn't a reason to invade that was good enough, that a lie was used instead?
