UN Alarmed By Canada's Breach Of Duty

Posted on Friday, October 12 at 08:56 by Anonymous
Her group joined the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Amnesty International on Thursday to condemn so-called "direct backs." They say the practice is used by border officials who blame a lack of staff, interpreters and resources. Claimants are sent back to the U.S. and told to return another time - something they may never have a chance to do. Two of the five people turned away on Monday were later detained by American authorities, said the UN high commissioner. The latest incident "strengthens the impression that the Canadian government is becoming increasingly hostile to refugees and unwilling to uphold its international commitments," said Amnesty International in a statement. http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5jyQ-HLeDHe12TGJ1oDAUSUWYQGcA

"who were sent back Monday to the U.S. from the Lacolle, Que., border point near Montreal."

Ummm, Quebec has it's own policies and department of Immigration, but it's Canada's fault? And why don't they apply for refugee status in the US?

"And why don't they apply for refugee status in the US?"

Why would anyone want to apply for refugee status in a country that violates international law and tortures people? That's what these unfortunate people are running away from in the first place - authoritarian oppression and war that is aided and abetted by US foreign policy!

"Quebec has it's own policies and department of Immigration, but it's Canada's fault?"

But, they are crossing the border from the States . . .how did they get there to begin with?

I assume in the same manner that the Mexicans do. From where these refugees are coming from, it's kinda hard to get to Canada without first crossing over the USA.
