James And The NDP Surge Ahead In Latest Poll

Posted on Friday, March 26 at 18:28 by KevinGagnon
BC NDP leader Carole James is pleased with the results of the poll, but she emphasised that there is still a lot of work to do to build on that support and to offer British Columbians positive reasons to vote New Democrat.

"Between elections, polls go up and down," said James. "44 per cent of NDP voters feel the NDP will do a better job and that is significant. But we have a lot more work to do in every region of BC and that's exactly what I'm doing, visiting communities, building support for the NDP and talking to British Columbians.

"Many British Columbians voted for the BC Liberals in the last election, because they were angry at the government and they believed Mr. Campbell's promises. Now that they've seen the real agenda of the Campbell government, more and more people are looking to the NDP to provide a balanced and practical approach."

Public disaffection with Gordon Campbell appeared to grow again, with the premier's public approval ratings dropping to an all-time low at just 34 per cent. Significantly, almost half of British Columbians said they disapprove "strongly" of the premier's performance. Overall, nearly two-thirds of BC voters currently disapprove of Campbell.

There was very good news for James' leadership in the same poll, however. Public approval of her job as Opposition leader stands at 47 per cent. And James and Campbell are in a statistical dead-heat for who would make the best premier for BC. 40 per cent of British Columbians say Campbell would make the best premier, and 38 per cent think James would make the best premier.

Better news than than the Globe stpry that the federal NDP just fell 2 points in the polls to 15%, with the Liberals stagnant, and the Conservatives up to 25%........not that I trust the Globe poll, right after the leadership convention......screw the Globe. Just wait until Canadians see Layton debate!!!

I absolutely do not believe polls ever...they are slanted at best and I think there real purpose is to sway public opinion. If everyone thinks one party is winning in the polls that is who they will vote for, so it appears that the polls are accurate but they are just a media tool!

I think the NDP will finish with no more then %20. What does this mean for Canada? What does it mean for Canada under a Paul Martin or a Steven Harper?

If Paul Martin or Steven Harper gets elected PM. Is there really anything we can do? I really don't think there is any hope. Yep I'm getting really frustrated and loosing total hope that Canada will not become a colony of the United States.

Relax, Kevin. There are many recourses we have, but let's give Layton, and maybe Orchard later a chance. Use your imagination, and think about all of the things we could do to influence our leader. :)

Remember, too, that any country/state that wants to join the United States MUST, the U.S. Constition states, VOTE to do so in a referendum, and get, I believe, either 51% or something higher than that. We'd never vote to do that. If they forged the referendum, well, bring out the weapons I guess, or start an independence movement, as Hawaii is doing.

Actually, it might be like 80% + that is required, I forget. Anyway, it appears their Constitution wasn't worded to include hostile takeovers. Go figure. Although we may appear complacent, we would fight if we were at risk militarily....we'll see about economically....

    Relax? ;-)

You were able to shed some light on this concern for me, thanks :-)
